This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What are your favorite games?

Abyssal Maw:

I mean jesus. It's a DUNGEON. You're supposed to walk in there like you own the place, busting down doors and pushing over sarcophagi lids and stuff. If anyone dares step up, you set off fireballs.

"I\'d rather be a killer than a victim."

Quote from: Cole;415348I never got around to playing this, but I have the book and it always seemed like it would be a lot of fun.
It's an awesome game. The 2nd French edition is my favorite. :)

Top 3:

Over The Edge (Insane conspiratorial horror action – William S Burroughs mixed with X-Files, I can't praise this game and its ideas enough)

Call of Cthulhu (The classic horror game and by far the game I dm'ed the most over the years and Delta Green/Pagan Publishing gave it an amazing facelift)

Ars Magica
(Cool magic rules, amazing setting, very good troupe play – I've played this far less than I wanted to)
Running: Call of Cthulhu
Playing: Mainly boardgames
Quote from: Cranewings;410955Cocain is more popular than rp so there is bound to be some crossover.

Jared A. Sorensen

D&D 4e/Gamma World (loving the game, need to play more!)

Parsely (I've run Action Castle 100+ times for probably thousands of people at this point)

And despite this being an RPG thread...
Castle Ravenloft
Pandemic

Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Running: AD&D 2nd. ed.

Trail of Cthulhu. It's a license to reinvent the Mythos and toy with player expectations.

Classic Traveller. Sit down, roll up a subsector, create some characters, rock on.

Chronica Feudalis. Very playable mashup of FATE (aspects) and Agon (step die-rated attributes) used for low-powered medieval adventures. I ran the First Crusade siege of Antioch at a con over the summer and had a blast.

Spirit of the Century. Pulpy goodness.

Mortal Coil. An innovative diceless resolution mechanic married to a collaborative world-building procedure produces an interesting system for playing out New Weird tales, Gaimanesque dreamscapes, or anything by Tim Powers.

Professort Zoot

Call of Cthulhu
Basic Role Playing for fantasy without levels and alignment with a gritty feel
Basic Role Playing for two-fisted pulp-era play
Champions
Hero System for fantasy wherein I can create any character I can imagine
Hero System for mystery man pulp-era play
Ars Magica, great for detailed fantasy role-playing and troupe play (only for mythic Europe; does not adapt well to other settings).
Traveller
GURPS if no one else wants to play Hero System

old school Gamma World
CyberPunk
Yes, it\'s a typo; it\'s not worth re-registering over . . .

Aos

For most of the aughts I've been pretty experimental. Presently, though, my list is pretty short.

S&W WB
BASH (1e)
Classic Traveller
True20 Revised (for anything that I can't do easily with the above).
I'd also like to run some sort of 1930's lost world thingy with the old Crimefighters rpg from Dragon magazine.
You are posting in a troll thread.

Metal Earth

Cosmic Tales- Webcomic

stu2000

Arduin.
Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes. And Tunnels & Trolls.
Over the Edge
Castle Falkenstein
Space 1889
Metascape
Fudge
Unknown Armies
Hong Kong Action Theater
Duel
Stalking the Night Fantastic

There are a ton of others left off the list. It's not a controversial list, apart from the fact that I admit that these aren't all the very best games ever invented, but I like them all a very great deal for reasons of my own.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

I have to add Atomic Highway to my list. It's pretty much perfect for Mad Max, which is my favorite post-apocalyptic setting.
