This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: BalbinusI'd be interested in hearing more about the 18th Century CoC game ....

That was me, so really, the question is what do you wanna know?

I wanted a slightly Solomon Kane style game (having just bought the Savage World of SK as well as Witch Hunter, the Invisible World), but decided to go with COC. I am using my own variant of the Cthulhu D20 rules (I included a "balanced option" alongside that games' defensive/offensive character options).

I simply allowed players to choose their "profession" and select 12 skills that go with the profession. I started them at third level and added rules for flintlocks and so on from some d20 sourcebook or other. Hit points are equal to Con and +1 hit point per level (no Con modifier).

The game is set in Scotland in the 1720's (the time of Rob Roy). I started it in Jedburgh, largely because I found some good information about that town on the net, including a map of about the right period, a modern map and a downloadable pdf with some of sites of interest and some great historical information. I changed a few things to suit my story (for example, the castle has been converted into a gaol already (which didn't actually happen until later on) and I weaved some of the mythos into the town locations/history and so on (starting with Bishop Ecgred of Lindisfarne in 854).

http://www.jedburgh-online.org.uk/

After six successful game sessions, including several duels with British army officers (one of the characters is a notable swordsman), a run in with the Witch Finder Lazarus Twice, a narrow escape from the Bounty Hunter Quintin Black (another character is a noblewoman, who funds her lifestyle as a "highwayman") and, eventually (getting back to the actual plot) involving finding and restoring a cross bearing an Elder sign to the crossbase, to seal the gate that was being used by the Cult of Mordiggian. Needing to leave Jedburgh in a hurry, the characters have now moved on to Edinburgh, where there has been a spate of grave robberies.....

Running: Classic Traveller

Its an expirament of sorts. One player and I as Referee have staked out a table in our favorite bar on Thursday afternoons to play CT. I want to see how people react and if we can get any interest in RPGs going since its a different environment than what is standard for gaming.
"Meh."

I'd like to play Earthdawn next, are you going to run it for me?

I'm running Hard Nova 2 Intercosm at the moment. I've an idea that I'll run some more space opera (using Star Frontiers) after this particular campaign.

So atheists have been abused, treated badly by clergy or they\'re stupid.They\'re just being trendy because they can\'t understand The God Delusion because they don\'t have the education, plus they\'re just pretending to be atheists anyway. Pundit you\'re the one with a problem, terminal stupidity.

Playing: Call of Cthulhu 'Tatters of the King', except some of the players have staged a walkout as it's 'too boring'. Unfair IMO, the guy is a new GM and trying hard, and doing well I thought.

Serious Paul

We just finished our Earthdawn Campaign a year ago? Year and a half? Good fun. But now that I look up I notice the ED books aren't on my shelf...WTF? Better recall who I let take those.

Cthy

Running a mutants and masterminds game, on and off but we're looking to start either a mage or changling game in the near future.
Your current safe boundaries were once unknown frontiers.

Running: Nearing the end of a WHFRP campaign. To be honest it should have been finished by late last year but scheduling difficulties have stretched the bastard out too much. Loved the campaign but can't wait to finish it.

Playing: I wish.

Want to play: The upcoming M&M game one of my groups running. I've never played much supers so I can't wait. Another player has come up with a D&D game set around a growing village. The concept's sound and I've only ever played three sessions of D&D so it should be interesting.

Want to run: Loads of stuff. After finishing the WHFRP campaign I really want to do a bunch of one-offs with the other games I have. Cthulhutech looks really good as a number of different types of games, AFMBE sounds fun and I've still to try out stuff like Starchildren and The Dying Earth RPG. I'll probably push for a once monthly Saturday afternoon game for thi8s stuff so we can have our normal Thursday night.

Akrasia

I haven't done much gaming over the past eight months, thanks to (a.) job travel; (b.) job search; and (c.) long-distance girlfriend.

However, I still managed some gaming (:D ) :

Last Ran: Basic D&D (Moldvay) one-shot adventure.  (Last proper campaign: C&C.)

Last Played: Spirit of the Century.

I'll be moving soon (found a new job; girlfriend will now be short-distance), and hope to find a new group with whom the following might be possible...

Would Like to Run: Rolemaster Classic, Savage Worlds, or Mircolite20.

Would Like to Play: D&D (any version), C&C, or any game I'd run.
