Dogs in the Vineyard. Only I don't know if it is actually amazing because I've never read the darn thing. It just keeps being brought up.

Skyrealms of Jorune. Best is 2e. Rules are not amazing, but with the setting and art it's one of the most remarkable and fully realised RPG experiences the hobby has brought us. Crying shame that it's dead as a doornail.

God where to begin. Amber Diceless rpg, Thieves Guild(which was the basis for the thief video game series), and probably thousands of others I've never heard of.

Transhuman Space is AWESOME and way underrated especially if you want to play Blade Runner or Altered Carbon before machines become more intelligent than humans (the so called singularity). Highly recommended even if you want to use a system other than Gurps.

I've only read the 4e Transhuman Space stuff (which is excellent). Is 3e significantly different with regards to setting information/content?

The Transhuman Space 240-page book is the setting for the RPG, no matter what GURPS edition splat books you have. Changing Times has the GM guide and the 3e to 4e conversion rules included in it.

Ah got it, thanks! I figured I must be missing something as the 4e Changing Times book seems pretty light. I'll have to pick that up for sure, then (at least in PDF form).

But I still say it's out of print. It just happens to be mostly still available.

p.s. I read the site more carefully, the boxed set is listed as sold out. So the Different Worlds website is not a way to get Thieves Guild as a playable game.

One of us is missing something but it says Sold Out for me in the boxed set description.

I agree it's probably going to qualify as out of print because I believe he only bought the rights and remaining stock but doesn't have whatever was used to generate the printings. But he might.

Noble Knight doesn't publish games, they are a retailer. Aaron has three copies of the original Ringworld RPG boxed set available for sale currently at $85-95 depending on quality.

You can get the serial-numbers-filed-off version from Chaosium as Magic World. They've stopped producing new material, but copies shouldn't be too hard to find.

You're confusing two different discussions going on here.  I'm talking about Thieves Guild and it's listing at the Different Worlds website.  Not talking about Ringworld (although that's another excellent game) or Nobleknight.

Yep, I just saw that, so as sold out, Thieves Guild is definitely not in print and not easily available.

To mix up with the other thread, Noble Knight Games does have Thieves Guild I for $120 or the boxed set for $225.

Wayne's Books has Thieves Guild I available for $59.99.

WEG's Ghostbusters and mumblemumble Zenzar. I would unironically love to try out Zenzar; as I recall Sartin's review, the fluff was way-over-the-top heavy metal album cover bullshit coupled with a fairly decent system that actually did cater to the implied playstyle.

It's actually SenZar, which I normally wouldn't bother nitpicking about, but if you've been trying to find it under the "Zenzar" spelling that may be why it's been difficult to turn up.

If you want Ghostbusters, look at something called Spooktacular.  It's an open license version of the WEG game.  Same setup (you run a franchise of ghost catchers), same game system.  It isn't "GB with the serial numbers filed off" it is "GB with the serial number partially covered with electrical tape."  It even adds a few new things to the mix.

The Nerdy Show sells a muuuuuuch better version of the Ghost Die, engraved rather than printed.

Maybe its just me, but I've turned down opportunities to buy Stormbringer roughly four or five million times at the half priced books in Tacoma (not in the last four years, but previously) and a handful of times at various game stores, so I'm not sure its 'hard to find'. Why? Well, I have four or five different rulebooks for Chaosium/runequest as it is, and honestly while I do sort of like the Elric stuff, the worldbuilding was never the strong suit of the books imho etc. Though, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure I don't own a copy! In fact I'm vaguely certain I do... somewhere.

For me the great white whale is Dune.  For a while it was 300 dollars on Amazon, and when I finally felt comfortable spending that sort of money for a game I'd probably never play/run... it was 800 dollars.

I did once get it for less than 100 dollars, then the seller realized what they were doing and pulled the order and refunded me, the fuckers.  I still don't have it, a fact I will probably lament on my deathbed.

I have Classified but have never played it.  I do not have James Bond, but ran it briefly from a borrowed copy a long time ago.  Can't say how well Classified emulates it, because my memory of the original is almost non-existent.  I got it mainly because of my fascination with all things Dragon Quest, since James Bond shares a similar system and the primary author is the same.

Near as I can tell, Classified sits at an odd spot, where the mechanics and presentation are cleaned up a little compared to games of the earlier time, but not entirely.  In the process, it loses some of the flavor of the original, but not entirely.  And of course the list of "spy equipment" is quite a bit different than it would have been in the original.

Hey Darrin! I am a huge fan of Magic World and its pretty much the only rule set I play these days (in various different settings), but know what your getting. The book itself has layout issues and lots of typos. Its also not as organized as it should be. The rules it presents however are just the perfect (for me) subset of BRP.

Whilst I don't miss all the clunky maths involved, I really do miss the old ICE books from the 1980s, MERP and Rolemaster.
Filled with lots of great old school b&W internal art, as well as excellent maps etc.
Their cover art was exceptionally good, often featuring artwork by Angus McBride, who would go on to more fame as an artist for Osprey books.
The books themselves were well organised, and overflowing with flavour; they were truly the canvas of old school classic fantasy for me...

Magic World was a big missed opportunity for Chaosium - the chance to have a solid fantasy rpg set of mechanics that played quick and smooth at the gaming table.
I guess it's only shelved and not gone, but between the CoC and RQ lines, I can't see MW getting much attention.
I really wish they had thrown some more money at it and given it a nice new run with the same production quality as the current CoC and RQ lines, perhaps expanding upon the setting in the book.
I could really see it working well with a dark fable-style fantasy setting, something like Dolemwood with a touch of DCC
