One Horse Town: I summon thee to come and tell me everything you fucking can about this book, what is it going to be like?

You'll note that I made a blog entry a while back related to this title and the fucked up issues the "enemy within" gang of WFRP-swine have about WFRP. This was because they'd glommed onto it as their hoped-for salvation for a more "sophisticated" campaign than the Paths of the Damned was (whereas in fact, the Paths of the Damned was fucking EXCELLENT and they're all a bunch of wankers).

So are they right in this hope, though? Is TTT going to be some kind of intrigue-filled no-action introspective wankfest?
Is it going to be radically different in style than Paths of the Damned was? How so?

Heh. There's not a great deal i can say at the moment, as it's still about 9 months away from publication. I'm allowed to put the fact that i was a contributing author in my signatures on various boards, but not a lot else at this stage. NDAs and all that. As soon as BI start releasing more details, i should be able to talk a bit more freely.

What i can say with certainty is that it is fucking packed with stuff. There's a hell of a lot of content in there.

Like most well balanced adventures, it caters to a mix of playstyles.

QuoteIs it going to be radically different in style than Paths of the Damned was? How so?

I think that if you compare most of the adventures released so far, you'll see a bit of all of them, stylewise, in this book.

I can't really say more at present. For those interested, i'd suggest keeping an eye on the BI boards for updates.

With respect to your NDA, let me phrase this a different way, a way that you might be able to answer: when you say the above, do you mean "It caters to a mix of playstyles the way that Paths of the Damned did"?

Or do you mean that "it caters to a mix of playstyles in a way I think that PotD didn't"?

Because where you stand on PotD vs. Enemy Within will tell me a lot about what you've just said.

Also, you may or may not be able/allowed to answer, but will it, like PotD, offer a combination of setting material and adventures? Or will any new setting material be purely limited to the adventure material itself, without a separate setting section?

Would it be breaking the terms of your NDA to disclose if the campaign is aimed at beginning or experienced characters?

I for one would love to see a big, meaty adventure that assumes a high degree of character competence out of the gate. There's very little in WFRP 2E that caters to that at the moment.

I think that PotD certainly had enough of a mix of playstyles to make it interesting to most people in one form or another. My (biased) view is that TT turns the volume up to 11.

As to the rest, that'll have to wait until more announcements from BI, i'm afraid.  :deflated:

At this point, probably. Sorry.

This has been posted by a member of BI about TT in the past.

As for what it’s about, well, we don’t want to give too much away about it just yet, but suffice to say it will tie together many of the books we’re releasing for 2007-2008. ‘Night’s Dark Masters’, ‘Realm of the Ice Queen’, ‘Tome of Salvation’ and Marienburg will all develop parts of the plot.

Just to get you going however, why not wikipedia the ‘Children’s Crusade’ to get a taste of one of our main inspirations…

No problem. You can't fault a bloke for trying... :p

Nice! I've always tried to include at least a dash of historical analogy in my WFRP campaigns (my last was modelled in part on the Albigensian Crusade). This sounds like exactly the sort of thing I'm into. Good stuff.

I've only read book 1 of PotD cover-to-cover, so I can't do a fair comparison, but I'm curious to know if you thought TEW was an "intrigue-filled no-action introspective wankfest"?

I actually think TEW was fairly brilliant, but its slobbering fans who are trying to claim that the ONLY way people should be allowed to run WFRP campaigns is the "enemy within way" have almost soured me on TEW.

I think some of them even seem to remember (or even imagine, as I suspect that some of them didn't actually even run or READ it) TEW as much less action-filled than it really was.

Can you answer how many books this campaign will span?  Is it a trilogy like PoD or a self contained campaign that ties into other existing setting books?
