Title: Warhammer 40K RPG
Post by: kanegrundar on March 22, 2006, 11:49:48 AM
I found a release at Leisuregames.com stating that Green Ronin will be putting out a Warhammer 40K RPG.  If it's as good as WHFPR 2, then I'll gladly snatch it up!

BlackIndustries is producing WH40k and they are teamed up with Green Ronin in the same way that that they are for the current WFRP.  The first release date is March 2007.  They are doing 3 seperate RPG for it in total each one about 18 months apart covering different aspects of 40k.  In between they will have periodical releases detailing different aspects of a particular game.

But just go to //www.blackindustries.com and read for yourself.

I've never understood why this hasn't been done before.

I mean, pretty much all the elements have been there to some extent - a detailed setting and, with the original Warhammer RPG, a basic system. I guess Warhammer fans have always been focused on the minis games.

It was never done for lack of wanting.  It was because Games Workshop is focused only on the wargaming aspect and they wouldn't allow their intelectual rights to be used by anyone else.  But now that Black Industries has been given the rights to us their IP they are making full use of it.

I don't know that much about 40k.  Playing Space Marines with my brother and a few White Dwarf articles is the extent of my experience.  But is the setting really conducive to individual heroes?  From what I've seen everyone in the 40k universe is just a cog in a big machine.  Is there room for a traditional adventuring party?

There is plenty to do in the 40k world that is more then just front lining it on the battlefield.  The first RPG will be based around being members of the Inquisition and ferreting out the incursions of Chaos that are creeping into society, really it's pretty similar to the Fantasy style of games but set in the future.  After that it's based around Space Priates/Rogue Traders - think firefly but with a Warhammer Grit to it.  The final game will be focused on being part of the death troops and is going to be closer in feel to the mini game.
