This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Now that I have the custom banners to show off, I'm officially announcing next July's Madison, WI old-school, OSR, and traditional RPG convention... VENGER CON II: Electric Boogaloo!

Here's the page: https://tabletop.events/conventions/venger-con-ii:-electric-boogaloo

If you have questions, please ask.

Love the banner.

How about hosting the first ever Freedom Awards? Freedom loving people of all stripes and walks of life answer to the corrupt ennies.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Yes, I'm definitely open to hosting some kind of Old-School RPG awards at VENGER CON.  Feel free to suggest stuff, guys.  Just... keep it simple.  I'm already going to have a lot on my plate with running the convention.

Also, thanks for coming up with the initial design for the VENGER CON font, hoss.  The one-horned "V" was genius!  ;)

Great! We need to come up with some categories anbd maybe some volunteers to run it, so you don't have to.

Awshucks! It was nothing, drawed inspiration from your namesake from the cartoon.

The convention info has been updated.  The OSR award show, held each year at VENGER CON, will be called The Tentacular!  I'll be asking for volunteer judges and submissions at some point next Spring.  I'm thinking each celebration of The Tentacular will be for OSR products released between the last convention and the current one.

While I still have pondering to do (mostly, the exact wording), I want these awards to reflect the VS aesthetic.  So, plain Jane, super-crunchy, card based RPG supplements and similar fare won't even be recognized.

You'll probably want to start by nailing down how your awards will define what is/isn't OSR since that's often ambiguous.

Geocities wants its webpage back!

I'm all for the convention, pity I can't go, but it is what it is. I wish you the best of luck. We need more cons to matter than gen con.
Running: HarnMaster, Barbaric 2E!, and EABA.

I love seeing some of the wokesters clicking on that sad emoji whenever you post this topic on Facebook.

Maybe at your next convention you should offer a stack of X-card toilet paper at each table.

I used to think it was any 1970s or 80s (maximum 1986) role-playing game, but I have recently been notified that it is only OD&D, Basic/Expert, BECMI (Rules Cyclopedia), and AD&D derivatives.  :o

Yeah, the definition changes a lot. I like the way you used to view it - 1986 and earlier.

But then does new traveller count as OSR? Most would say no. That then leads me to think games based from that period and done by smaller named publishers using traditional rp styles. Hard saying. Someone will come in and tell me I'm wrong. This is the rpgsite. ;)

You say "been notified," but by whom? Is there any true authority? I don't believe there is, which is why I suggested Venger write out the criteria he will be using.

That's his opinion. It may not be shared by everyone, perhaps not by Venger.
