This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Shield would be sweet as a campaign.

I've long said The Shield is tailor made for an RPG.  4-5 detectives with free range of motion.  A dangerous setting with all sorts of personal and physical conflict.  Love the show.  I even included an anti-gang "Strike Team" as a PC option for Miami Nights (along with Vice, SWAT, etc.).

I want to write an Oz-style RPG.  PIG has recently developed an "army" mechanic that I think would work well on a gang level.  Just don't know how well the other themes would port over, though.  Can't imagine what kind of players you'd attract with an anal-violation tracker on the character sheet.  Still think it could be a hell of a game, though.

There's a game called Dog Town where the PCs are criminals.  The rules are a bit too crunchy for my tastes, but the supplements are a treat to read and brimming with ideas to mine.  In particular, The Felon's Handbook, has a ton of information on the inner workings of the Mafia, other syndicates, gangs, and crime in general, for those who want to play mob crews.

Disclaimer:  I freelanced a scenario for this company (which happens to involve a Mafia Capo).

I give an overview of the Italian Mafia in the upcoming Vice Squad: Miami Nights, along with the option to play a member of the mob, but I don't go into the detail that TFH does.

Didn't GURPS (big surprise!) have a Mafia supplement?

What about InSpectres and CORPS?  Aren't those X-files-type games?

This thread may be 14 years old but i agree Aeon Flux should be an rpg.

The A-Team should get one.

Saphire and Steel, creepy staring for the win.

Of the most recent shows Danger 5. Cause of the shlock, the glorious shlock.

More to come:)

The internet is now old enough that we can have 14 year old thread necros. Wow.

More recently, The Last Kingdom looks very much like an rpg. The main character has no loyalty to anyone except the latest hot chick, he defies kings and yet somehow retains his head, he neglects his family in favour of fighting and loot, he has a long-term goal which he never gets around to pursuing and if he does the GM pulls out a bunch of NPCs never mentioned before now to stop him, and he's accompanied by a team of misfits from a dozen different backgrounds.

Been watching season 4 and was thinking just how much this show feels like an RPG as well. Guy always has a whole party hanging out with him--even a priest and a war nun--and they're always storming castles or fighting entire freaking hordes of Vikings and stuff.

One show that was already mentioned, but without details, that would definitely work as an RPG is Dark Angel.

Characters would be escaped transgenic mutants born in a lab, without a name, identified only with a barcode at the back of their neck, marking them as property of Manticore. Now they have to fight in a dystopian biopunk future where they're hunted down by the secret organization that created them and the public that's slowly discovering their existence hates and fears them. But they have cool abilities and military training, giving them an edge over ordinary humans.

The show itself practically setup the entire rationale for how transgenic characters other than the show's protagonists could exist in the setting and be loose in the world (they all escaped and there's hundreds of them!). So you don't even have to bust your head trying to come up with excuses for how to play characters other than the show's protagonists and what type of motivation they would have for "adventure". And there's different types of transgenics so a lot of detail could be added to character creation for choosing transgenic enhancements and such.

There could also be ordinary humans as support characters as well, but those would probably be NPCs.

90-Day Fiance: The RPG.

PCs are 50-something gamers on a quest to [strike]buy[/strike] find a younger, hotter partner than they could possibly find in real life. Zero to Hero? No, this is the game of Zero to Zero. NPCs must be poor and desperate. And even then the mythical "green card" magical item is often not enough to ensure victory.  Not helped by the fact that all PC stats are rolled with a 1D4 at chargen. Especially INT. And CHA. Also, the mechanics make it impossible for pcs or (npcs) to pass a SAN check. Ever.

when I was a kid, there was this cartoon that aired on Sat.  I can't remember the name of it, but there were a bunch of kids from earth who got on a roller coaster, and ended up in this fantasy world.  There was this five headed dragon, and this demon guy with one horn and a flying horse.
each of the kids had a magic item and the demon guy wanted them so he could kill the dragon.
and there was this short bald dude who was always causing them to get into trouble.
I always thought that would be a good RPG.

if we are including this Bruce Campbell classic, how about Burn Notice and the classic Jack of All Trades?

or how about The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, many of Verne's adventure stories end up being events that he experienced with Phileas Fogg on his airship, with his manservent Passepartout (who spoke dozens of languages, all of them badly), and Rebecca Fogg. together they fought the League of Darkness lead by the evil steampunk cyborg Count Gregory, who died 500 years ago.
