This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The internet is now old enough that we can have 14 year old thread necros. Wow.

More recently, The Last Kingdom looks very much like an rpg. The main character has no loyalty to anyone except the latest hot chick, he defies kings and yet somehow retains his head, he neglects his family in favour of fighting and loot, he has a long-term goal which he never gets around to pursuing and if he does the GM pulls out a bunch of NPCs never mentioned before now to stop him, and he's accompanied by a team of misfits from a dozen different backgrounds.

Hrrrm? This actually seems very Anglo-Saxon. Each wave conquered then settled in Britain, only to have later waves of Saxon and Vikings attack their kin from the earlier waves as if they were English instead of Kin. Even Wessex was mixed Anglo-Saxon by the late 800's, with only a few of the original Celtic Britons remaining  in Cornwall and Wales. In 1066 the Normans came, and Normans were simply Vikings that had settled along the French Coast. The UK was a total clusterf&%k. until after the war of the roses.
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

Though I've never seen the show, I've always been disappointed that the Dark Shadows RPG West End Games was working on in the mid-90s never got off the ground.
