This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Turning 50 Fathoms into Treasure Planet?

How hard would it be to turn the Savage Worlds 50 Fathoms setting into something like Disney's Treasure Planet?

Would it be worth the effort or are there better setting like that already available?

Spelljammer seems ideally suited to a Treasure Planet theme.

But any RPG with nautical rules would do as long as you are ok with mostly two dimensional thinking. Which isnt too far off from norm.

Another RPG that would fit would be Furry Pirates with some retooling. Or TSRs older high seas expansion which I've heard of but never seen.

Mystarra also hase airships and seems like it would possibly be well suited for adaption.

Really depends upon what you want to do? Are the ships in space a backdrop or is space combat going to be prevalent?

If its a backdrop then 50 fathoms likely can work. If it is for combat and all that then probably will not quite hit all the buttons that Spelljammer can.

Instead of 50 Fathoms I would probably take a hard look at another Savage Worlds product, the Pirates of the Spanish Main RPG.
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

Which reminded me that "Sundered Skies" exists already ... thanks?

Sundered Skies + 50 Fathoms = Treasure Planet + Pirates of Dark Water.

50 Fathoms or Pirates of the Spanish Main + the Fantasy Companion should have you set there.

50 Fathoms though has an awesome treasure map subplot though.

There are six golden triangles that when put together show the map to RedBeard's treasure. But anyone in the possession of even one of the golden triangles can draw the attention of the long dead pirate RedBeard and his ghost ship trying to stop anyone from getting his treasure. Using this as a base (collecting the six pieces of the map and getting the treasure), seems a great way to adapt the Treasure Island type of story with a built in antagonist in RedBeard as well as anyone else trying to gather the triangles.
