This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Looking for a PRC
« on: March 20, 2006, 12:26:12 AM »
I'm looking for a specific kind of prestige class - specifically, one to replace the Arcane Archer.

The Spellsword would be perfect, but it's too focused on melee combat.

I'm looking for a ranged weapon/spellcasting PRC that would take the place of the Arcane Archer in the same way that the spellsword takes the place of the Eldrich Knight.

Specifics:

Should grant some reduction in armor penalties (maybe up to 25%).
should have some spellcasting (every other level is good)
Should have requirements tailored to ranged fighters.

wishful thinking:
It'd be even better if there's a PRC out there for a dex-swashbuckler/rogue type. though there are some cool concepts out there (daggerspell mage, for instance), none of them quite work right either.

Anyone hae any ideas for me?

Hmm.  I don't think I've ever seen what you're looking for.  3e seems to be pretty lacking in ranged weapon combat options in general.  Sounds like you've got a good list for making your own PrC, but a lot of GMs aren't really up for that...

we like making up our own prestige classes, even if they are never going to see play.

What wrong with the Arcane Archer that means it doesn't fill the roll you require? Might give some pointers on where to start with this new PrC

the arcane archer provides absolutly no additional spell levels, nor does it allow any casting in armor. It also requires elf or half-elf as a race, and it generally concentrates too much on forcing the character to make and use special arrows.

the enhance arrows ability is also extrordinarily lame, considering that any decent archer will have a magical bow already.v
