This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Say away man! That is how I ended up doing the True20 version of Roma. I had a lot of Roma fans come out of the wood work and let me know that they wanted just that, Roma True20.

I thought it was really cool how quite a few of us came to the same conclusion independently on Roma True20.  It just fits.

After reading through the thread ...got a couple of questions...

 1) What is the real difference between D20 and True20?
My customers at the store led me to believe they were basically the same.

2) Could this Nebulon work with GURPS:SPACE ?

3) Does anyone ever do game books that are just the Settings? No game mechanics?  Not sure if it would sell - it might with some of my regular customers, myself included.

In General, I prefer science fiction and space settings to fantasy ones when doing RPGs.

1) True20 is an OGL system, so it has similarities to d20. The difference is that True20 uses the damage save mechanic from Mutants and Masterminds instead of having hit points, has a streamlined skill system, Three basic yet very customizable classes (Warrior, Adept and Expert), A Conviction point system (similar to d20 modern action points & Star Wars force points) tied to True20's unique alignment system, and a skill/feat based magic system. There is more, but those are most of the big differences.

2) It seems to me that the Iridium system would be fairly easy to convert to GURPS.

3) Yes, Green Ronin is re-releasing their Freeport setting in a no-rules format, and releasing Companion books with rules for different systems (1 for d20, and another for True20 have been announced so far). The

They have also indicated that they may do future setting releases in a similar format, but this is unconfirmed at present.

Matthew has it right. I would only add:
1. OGL does not imply compatibility with d20. I don't think that was what Matthew meant but I thought it might cause some confusion the way it was worded. The Iridium System Core Reference is OGL and really has no connection to d20.

2. Iridium is very skill driven so I think it would be a good fit with GURPS.

3. Rules free settings get released but that can be a nervous proposition. In my stores in the 90s, they (when we got one) never sold well. I think they may have a better chance today due to changes in the way a lot of products hve been viewed. It would still be a tough one to do with a print industry. It would, IMO, do better in the PDF market.

True20 also has a much different magic system than D20. It is also a game that is extremely easy to run on the fly- for me anyway. I don't like D20 so much but I really dig True20.

Yeah.  I prefer D20 mainly because I'm not digging on True20's magic system, damage save mechanic, or consolo-classes.  Just a personal preference.

Thanks for listening, Hinterwelt!
