I'm very much interested in coming up with a similar setting to 7th Sea, but want to get the place-names and languages closer to historic counterparts.

Nations:

Germany =
Holland/Low Countries =
France =
Spain =
Portugal =
England/Celtic =
Italy =
Papal State =
Merchant Republics =
Sweden =
Denmark=
Viking =
Micro States =
Greece =
Turkey =
Balkan =
Poland =
Romania =
Russian =

Please give me some names for each of these!

Why not just Google historical names for them, or use the Spanish, French, or whatever language versions? Angleterre, Allemagne, etc.

Gorilla_Zod

I'm fond of Dalriada and Brigandia as my Scots-Celtic and England espies when I go faux European.

I want something a bit less common and not used in settings before.

Go to Donjon, use the Markov name generator, seed it with country names you like, then run it until you have enough.

Given the criteria in your OP, that's highly unlikely to happen.

Hemus is the original name of the Balkan mountain:).

And I wonder where is my own country. I mean, all our neighbours are present, but for some reason Bulgaria, Serbia and Croatia aren't there;)?

At one point in history Holland/the lowlands were known as the Batavian republic.
May I say that? Yes, I may say that!

I was researching Bulgaria a couple years ago for a dark fantasy homebrew setting. It's got everything you'd want in a locale and its got tremendous length of history. Also, its 110k sq km, about the size of Virginia, so it is easy enough for PCs to travel throughout the various locales in a couple weeks end to end on foot.

Here's a map...its a pre-built a hex crawl!

And its got dark fantasy names all over the place

I can only agree;). And being a native, I can add that vampires and werewolves both count as Bulgarian myths.
It's very funny to confront vampire-loving Goth players with an authentic Upir and watch the exploding heads:D!

VGunn, have you seen Dark Albion? I used alternate locale-names for almost every part of Europe. Usually something closely related to history, mind you.
