This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RPGPundit;1049111Man, I have to say, this is the sort of stuff I do not like about Traveller.

An interesting point here... Of the SFRPGS contemporary to Traveller that actually include much of any rules for interstellar navigation published through 1980 that I looked at (Flying Buffalo's Starfaring, Tyr Game's Space Quest, FGU's Starships & Spacemen, and FGU's Space Opera, and Traveller - I also looked at Space Patrol, Metamorphosis Alpha, and Gamma World as other SFRPGS but they don't include any rules for interstellar travel or world generation, Space Patrol includes "scenario generation" but it assumes landing on an earth type world - I didn't look at The Star Trek Adventure Game), only Starships & Spacemen and Traveller don't detail out star systems with at least stellar type.

So in it's initial form, Traveller I think actually downplayed "hard science" in setting up worlds, so I'm not sure your complaint is really fair about Traveller unless you buy into the mindset that everything that's been published for Traveller must be used.

Quote from: zx81;1049126Well, its not like Traveller requires you to know the exact, scietifically correct temperature for every spot on the planet at a given time.

No, absolutely. It's one of the things I like about it. If you want to obsess over starship design or tiny planetary details that are meant to emulate careful science.

But if you don't want that, you can just skip it. Ditto with stuff like trade rules (which I do like a lot).

Plenty of Referees skip over Psionics in Traveller rules. Animals get ignored, too. Just use Earth animals on planets when asked if there's any.

True. I've only used psionics in half the Trav campaigns I've run.

Yes, but I´ve come to like the Animals rules.
If there are herds of 4D 24-ton omnivores roaming the planet, then thats going to affect most things on that world.

I have a question regarding Heaven & Earth, i already downloaded the HES files for the sectors from  http://www.downport.com/wbd/HEAVEN_&_EARTH.html and the Foreven Sector file but i was wondering if there are other sector files out there. I searched on my own but was unable to find any. If someone can tell me where I can download additional sector files for Heaven&Earth i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Wow, this thing has got some usefulness to it!

Hrrrm? yes! Been using this since 2003. I especially like the animals tables generator, the cultures, available cargos for sale, NPC Generator, Planet Industry generator, and Passenger Generator. Really sweet stuff for filling out details on a system.
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.
