This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Traveller Question: Two Player?

I recently got my hands on a great collection of Traveller games (starter edition as well as TNE, game modules and adventures and all the little black books) So which edition to play is also on my to do list.

Trouble I have is finding people to play the game with.  My daughter and I would love to play the game ourselves but I'm not sure its possible to do.  I have some of the Traveller board games that allow 2 players but can we do a two player adventure together?

Well assuming one is the GM and the other is the player...

I see no reason why it couldnt be tailored to one character.
From there you could work in NPCs to fill the vacancies.

Or one player could handle several characters.

If you have 76 Patrons in that collection, there are some 2-player adventures in there, I believe. Another good idea would be to look at perhaps getting the Mythic GM Emulator, which frees you up more to play than just be a GM.

"...maybe this has to do with my being around at the start of published RPGs and the DIY attitude that we all had back then but, it seems to me that if you don\'t find whatever RPG you are playing sufficiently inclusive you ought to get up off your ass and GM something that you do find sufficiently inclusive. The RPG setting of your dreams is yours to create. Don\'t sit waiting and whining for someone else to create it for you." -- Bren speaking on inclusivity in RPGs

It is no problem to play Traveller with just a Referee and a Player. If I may suggest, invest in the supplement Star Trader and download it. This is a single-Player system designed for use with Traveller that works very well. The article on the Freelance Traveller website entitled Travelling Alone is also good for ideas and ways to play the game with limited people.

Some does depend on what rules version you decide to use. Let me know that and I can be more helpful.

Find friends who love Firefly / Serenity. They will love Traveller.

Wow such quick replies! Awesome :)

The Mythic GM Emulator,   Star Trader, The article on the Freelance Traveller website entitled Travelling Alone ... even finding people that are fans of Firefly....these suggestions are a huge help!

I cant wait to check out these download suggestions to see what they're about and how they can help.  Hopefully we will be able to get our first adventure started soon.

Thanks again guys.  :)

**update**
Just got both the Mythic GM Emulator and Star Trader.

For some reason I was envisioning the Mythic GM Emulator to be an application I would run to do the job.  Still reading it through though.
I see a Flash version of it.  Would be great to have a nicer PC version or a version that would run nicely on an Android tablet.

Check on the Mythic Yahoo group.

Thank you kind sir!  I joined that group and found a nice assortment of PC based utils to use.

I picked up Star Trader a couple of weeks ago and having been playing solo with Mythic etc. I'll add my name to the chorus -- it's very well done. Using two people instead of one should pose no difficulties at all.
