This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

...Let the adventure begin..... (some of you will get that reference/joke)

Almost every RPG campaign setting has a variation of bars of tavens for the characters to meet up with interesting NPCs and as places to get information.

GURPS:TRAVELLER has those Starport Bars/restaurants  called BRUBEKS.

AUTODUEL/CAR WARS had those well-fortified Truck Stops. (loved that old map)

...and of course DUNGEONS & DRAGONS and all its variants and clones have the Taverns and Inns.

Any of you have ideas that you never got to use for these places? Or a campaign ended sooner than you wanted and yuou never got to drop in that really fun NPC that frequents the local tavern into the story?

Old English style gentleman's clubs or coffee houses for plup. Just the place to relax after saving the world and to catch up on what other threats might need putting down.

Thundering dance club for cyberpunk or vampire or transhuman space. Where else will you find out about the cool shit going down?

Grand old libraries with decks and decks of ancient tomes for Cthulhu. Knowledge is power, it might be the only weapon you'll have.

I have too many ideas and not enough time/ gamers to play them.

Bogmoors - The Classic Bar...
Bogmoors has been here for 721 years. It started with an ale stop for the Imperial invaders. From there it has been a similar stop for every wave of invaders since then, as well as every local for a good walk's distance.

Perrellti's Air Bar   Cyberpunk/ Sci-fi
It is a little hole in the wall "tucked away in the corner" by a service alley. There is a nice sign with classic holo neon on the street. The door leads to a small entry room and functions as an airlock. The air inside is ion scrubbed, but street mix. Inside the accommodations are quite nice, if a little worn. The place has a charm of its own, all decked out in classic midcentury-modern revival (think 50s diner). The red velvet and chrome seating goes nicely with the checkered floor and the white walls. You can use your own mask, or they will gladly let you use one of theirs (or even sell you one). Some of the regulars actually keep their masks here for ready use (they are kept under the counter). Each set of couches (two couches and a small round table in the middle) has its own mini-display that gets standard vid or music. If you ignore the display and are not sitting with anyone else, you can always watch the holo neon signs on the wall change every few minutes in various period logos and such. In addition to a wide variety of gas mixes, they have a small drink and treat bar that will give you something else to do while taking in a properly saturated gas.  It is a nice place with a good community. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. You really can do no wrong visiting this air bar.

Blue Diamond Automat   Cyberpunk-Sci-Fi
In these store slots, there are ten to thirty vending machines and autoprep machines serving mostly food. Here you can get a hot autoprepped soy burger or Belgian styled fries with sauce out of a vending mech. These are the common, but the options vary by region and store. Of course, there is standard vending fare available: any number of cold drinks, preprepped sandwitches, rabbit burgers, jerky, food tubes, or even kibble packs, plus the ever common candy. Most stores will also have some non food items for emergency needs: panchos, sunscreen, mini O2 saturators, cells and other comms. Every store will have a SunDisk kiosk, where you can purchase any media in their massive catalog and have it burned onto a minidisk.   There is more...
This was designed with a mall/ antigravity skate rat cyberpunk campaign that never made critical mass. It would kind of be like haning out in the Circle K.  It is also useful in any cyberpunk/ sci fi game to reset equipment and provide a continuity. Also see Lifters #15 in the same thread.

Aladdin's Place   VR/ Dreamdance bar
Given the neighborhood, you expect a dive when you first enter. You are not completely disappointed. It is a fairly nice, but somewhat dated and worn ultralounge. The scene is dark with only few light spheres dimly allowing you to navigate the rich blue velvet couches, open booths where people used to gather together in days of old, and low dark woodtables that make up the place. There is still a bar here, though it only serves canned drinks, and provides some up lighting to the mirror behind it. The legacy lounge music plays as low background noise over the sound system. Each table, besides having a comfortable seat beside it and a dim Modern Ikea Light Sphere, has a small menu and two to eight small black boxes - Dream Servers.   There is more....

The Corner Klah    Fantasy - Arth
This is a Tea and Klah shop on the corner of two large streets. The streets meet at an odd angle, so the Corner Klah is a odd pie wedge shaped establishment. It has a few chairs and small table outside for patrons to avoid the noise inside for the noise outside. .. there is more...This Corner Klah has a bit more to it, but it gives all the basics for my archetypical klah house in Antioch. Here, Caffine is more important than etoh.

Two Twines - The Elven Embassy
In the words of the Great Bard Taslinus Excellencus . . . yet on entering The Embassy one is conscious of calm and complete beauty echoing the mood of majesty and peace that is the essential quality of The Valley and Greater Elven Kingdom. . . . against a background of forest and precipice the architect has nestled the great structure of granite, scaling his design with sky and space and stone. To the interior all ornamentation has been confined, and therein lies a miracle of color and design. The Ancient Elven motifs, primitive yet timeless, are supreme . . . . The designs are stylized with tasteful sophistication; decidedly Ancient Elven, yet decidedly more than Elf, they epitomize the involved and intricate symbolism of Man . ..  There is too much more, it is a good size entry.
This is the core place for a fantasy campaign I wanted to run

The Spirit's Pub  - Urban Fantasy
"You head down this back alley, and check that last door on the left. If it opens for you, you are in, one of the gang. If not, well you are not ready for the place yet. If you can't see that door on the left, you will never be one of us. " Silverwind, aka Alex O'Tor... more in link

I tend to do information overload on all my posts. Also having everything that I want to tinker with on http://www.strolen.com (plus articles) for the world to see, does allow me to "whip out" a ton of stuff on short order. (Figure most of those are anywhere from 15 minutes to an hours worth of work).

So Dar, write something up... post it up somewhere. (You can post on strolen's too...)  That way you can be just as cool as me.

And remember, writing is a skill, a skill that improves with practice. The more you write, the better you get (as long as you are not writing in a vaccuum). That is why I like "post it" sites like Strolens. You can write. You can get feedback (feeble, but feedback). You can go on to the next things you want to do.
