Voodoo and Native American Shaman...

You really have to think whether you want the 'real' kind of thing or the 'popular conception' of those. Because in both those cases there's an egregious level of difference. Our idea of a "voodoo priest" tends to be informed by bad movies or comics, and our idea of an 'animist shaman' is based more on New Age bullshit than genuine practices.

I whole heartedly agree with Pundit here. He knows more about this stuff than I do. I wouldn't be surprise I gave you wrong information. Not on purpose of course, but as I stated before I have a limited understanding on this subject.

Note that I'm not saying you SHOULD choose the 'realistic' kind of shamanism or voodoo. I'm saying you should think about what you want it to be. In some games, it might make more sense to use the popular stereotype of these things.

Of course, in the types of games I run myself, I'll tend toward the more accurate stuff.
