This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Some do, some don't. Quite a few of my players didn't want to play in the Robotech campaign because it meant that they'd be playing in a military context, and follow orders.

And yet strangely, they like Pendragon, where they're playing in a military context and have to follow orders, even more absolutely. But I guess its a question of the cultural framework.

There's also the obvious solution of making some or all of the PCs passengers of a skyship, rather than crew.  That nicely gets around any issues with authority, and passengers can still get into hijinks in port or even participate in skyship battles (as the brief fiction in the intro PDF demonstrates nicely).

Ghost Whistler

So what do you play in this game? What character classes are there other than don't-call-me-a-wizard wizard and giant parrot? :D
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Premier

Quote from: Ghost Whistler;293913it's not keeping players working together that's the issue. It's the fact that, on a pirate ship or sky galleon or whatever, there is some form of hierarchy. Ie someone has to be captain presumably, making the decison as to where to fly and what to loot me hearties.

Kind of OT, but:

Funnily enough, historically this wasn't necessarily the case. On many pirate ships, the captain enjoyed much less power and decision-making freedom than on any other ship. In some cases, the captain's authority only extended to commanding the battle, and everything else was voted on by by the crew  - including the commisioning of a new captain.
Obvious troll is obvious. RIP, Bill.

I'm excited about S7S.  I've loved Chad's previous games (Truth & Justice), and the PDQ Sharp tweaks are interesting.

And I just entered their logo remix contest. :)

Not a completely baseless comparison, although there's no "earth" as such (the world is a giant rotating snowglobe full of floating islands, with a pillar of fire running up the central axis and an ocean of gooey blue quintessence at the base).  But yeah, I expect that actual play might resemble Spelljammer (which I've read but never played).

The PDQ system doesn't have any kind of traditional Character classes.  Your character is a set of motivations, history, skills, descriptions, and foibles.  The game is first and foremost about the PROSE... which means less fiddling with statistics and optimizations, and more creation of fun and interesting stories.  I just picked up the game myself, and the design is fun and simple... looks like it'll make a lot of great games once it catches on.
