Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). im sure many of us have things from even our most favoured of books that we just find plain stupid and would rather act like they werent there for me it is the elemental warrior from the planer handbook and about 2/5 of the book of exalted deeds. i thought it would be interesting to see what others thought

Hmmm,, even though I haven't played ADnD for many years, it still is a "Favourite" for nostalgic reasons.

However I, and pretty much everyone I knew who played ADnD ignored weapon speeds and those charts where different types of weapons had bonuses to hit/damage (or something like that) against certain armor types, (such as Piercing weapons vs chain and so on).

I suppose it was a good idea, we just couldn't be bothered using it.

I played a lot of AD&D 1st Ed back as a teen in the eighties, with many different groups of different ages in different towns. And yet I can't remember anyone ever using...

1) Weapon vs. armor mods.

2) The Bard class.

3) Psionics.

and I'm sure there are other ones I'm forgetting.

I suppose it says something about the robustness of AD&D's design that you could rip out giant chunks of the rules and it still ran just fine.

is not just system it can be fluff as well (which is thankfully usualy a lot easier to throw out) the only problem i ever had was the elemental warrior was that a class described as being those who attempt to solve problems with the right combination of the 4 elements only gets features for a single element if it was presented as something for a single element fluff wise it would be fine. I could just refluff it a little but it would be a constant reminder at how much they fucked it up.

and most of the stuff in the book of exalted deeds was just authors who clearly have no idea how d&d morality works although you do need to cut out a lot of the opposite to vile darkness stuff.

oddly the worst part of the book was not the opening that was so bad that they had to basicly rewrite it in the straight and narrow section but the final part of the book the divine wrath swarms. The first bit about kord killing a failed warriors sons because he lost a battle was bad enough but then the bit about pelor smiting something for somebody because of its fucking hate was well and truly a failure.

oddly unlike a lot of people i actually liked the the celestial paragons they would have been better with class levels but i suppose the lords of evil did not have class levels either and its fairly easy to add them on.

i constantly flip between liking and hating the deathless. i liked the new gods Valarian is a possessive arsehole but we finally got the god of sex we have needed for so long and they managed to not fuck it up (they did fuck up everything else related to sex though). The prestige classes were pretty good for the most part but they had a massive obsession with not working alongside other members of the class. None of the female only classes make any sense being such for the swanmays it is pointless and for the beloved of valarian it just makes him come across like an abusive husband and of course they cant have any male only classes because oh god the drama. I like that it recognises that polygamy is not evil and impresed they keep it vague enough that if fundies come after them they can deny it.

and of course i hate the saint who doesent. although i think the risen martyr auctualy is not to bad if you change him from goes away at level 10 to goes away when his task is complete.

You had to have a certain number of levels of fighter, then basically start over and get some levels of thief, and IIRC some other requirements as well. It was the first "Prestige class", only all odd and convoluted .

speaking of bards what do you think of bardic knowledge on the one hand its probably overpowered (i have not seen it in action yet so i dont know for sure) but on the other hand it makes a lot of sense thematicly

although really its because of the bards status as a wanderer and a whole party is a wanderer so maybe just a small sort of bonus for partys that do a lot of travelling with a slightly larger bonus for the bard

eh my players are smart enough to keep there knowledge skills high anyway so its not to big a deal

In Fate I routinely ignore the Fate Point cost of refusing a compel. The carrot of gaining a Fate Point (and spotlight time) provides sufficient incentive, adding a stick as well feels heavy handed. Bear in mind I rarely see players refuse compels, when they do usually it's because it was a crap compel in the first place.

I think this is a pretty common house rule. I've actually never met a GM who enforced the pay to refuse compel rule, not outside Internet forums that is.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

Skywalker

The Internet is generally the thing I ignore if I like a system.

In Legend of the Five Rings, large parts of the canon (i.e., card game) timeline.

Also for L5R, I try to take one step back from each Clan being invincible at their particular schtick.  (Which, in fairness, the published books taken as a whole don't support.  But a single clan's writeup in isolation can give that impression.)  Obviously the clans are still good at what they're known for, so taking Crane versus Lion for instance, the Crane should win at court more than half of the time, and the Lion should win on the battlefield more than half of the time.  But part of GMing L5R for me is figuring out how things fall the other way sometimes.

dident they split the timelines a few years ago anyway or am i misremembering

So true...

Not sure what I'd call my favorite system, so I'll go with the first system I can remember removing something from outright:  Savage Worlds.  No Soak rolls.
