This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

i was going to run a modern CoC adventure this summer.  but whenever i'm online, i end up here:

http://www.cthulhurising.co.uk/index.php

anyone try it?  also, the downloads section looks pretty comprehensive.  what's in the monograph that isn't in the downloads?

Hmn. Looks bitchin'. Should definitely tell my CoC-playing friends about it.

Why, oh why, oh why won't Chaosium sell their monographs in the PDF format? I normally don't like PDFs but if it's a print-on-demand thing I'm more likely to buy if I can just buy the PDF and then print it myself if I think it deserves that.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

That depends in the quality of the POD. Lulu POD books are indistinguishable from normally printed books for almost everyone. These are basically glorified photocopies. I can do that at home on my color laser printer.

You mean the monographs?  Yeah, they're nothing special.  I suppose it keeps the profit margin high on them, which is really the whole point.

Exactly. I could do as well or better at home. The Monographs may have excellent content, but the production values are slipshod at best. This is obviously why they don't exist as pdfs.

This just makes it more puzzling, to me, why they don't sell them as PDFs. If they're glorified photocopies, then presumably they have original master copies they can scan for the PDF, and if they want to keep printing costs down then PDFs are the zero-printing-cost format.

I can only assume that they are terrified of piracy, but the only effective solution to that is not selling products at all to the general public, because people will happily scan their hard copies of products.

publishing matters aside, nothing to say about the game itself?

stats-wise, i was thinking i could probably use their stuff for a traveller conversion as well.
