This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The Swine Strike At Midnight!

My local gaming convention is this weekend.  I was looking over the final program when I noticed that in the Friday midnight slot is scheduled a session of My Life With Master.  I'm pretty sure this is the first Forge design to make it onto the schedule at Winter War.  The GM is a fella I've played Call of Cthulhu with several times over the years.  When I run CoC at this con he and his brothers often sign up.  They're a pretty rowdy trio, playing fast and loose with the Lovecraftian horror and emphasizing the pulpy action instead.

There's a  lesson here, I think.  Even with a game as 'Forgey', 'swinish', and 'pretentious' as My Life With Master (written by the same guy who did Nicotine Girls, after all), you can find a regular Joe gamer who is a fan.

Or it means that Operation Coercion is bearing fruit as the mind control drugs are finally making their way through the water supply. One of those two. ;)

Did you sign up or are you working a slot too at that time?

Neither.  I'm running a game the next morning and need the sleep.

Most definitly.

That's why I think Pundit was mistaken in discarding the upcoming CoC game simply because one of the author likes Don't Rest Your Head.

Here's another test. Anyone can go back to our "Top 10 Games of RPGsite" thread and see that some of the users will have games we despise and games we love on the same list. For instance you have MSH (which I think sucks ass) and you have D&D (which I think rocks).

I have D&D, which you have listed, and I probably have a game in there that you can't stand at all.

One single game does not define a gamer :)

Gaming conventions are not for sleeping. You'll have plenty of time to sleep when you are dead.....at work on Monday. :haw:

MLwM is a nice design. People seem to like it best for one-shots but I think it's really designed for a 2-5 session minicampaign more than anything. Still, it's a pretty fun one-shot game too.

The Paranoia guys borrowed some ideas from Paul for XP.

Furthermore, I game with Paul Czege and his wife occasionally. He and I have had some very interesting conversations about D&D and other traditional games, all of which he has played. I've gotten some useful advice from him here and there for my homebrewing efforts, and his perspective is always valuable. He's one of the wiser people about games I've met, in fact.

One very negative effect of internet game discussions seems to be that it magnifies existing differences and creates imaginary ones to the point where we think people who we have a lot in common with are coming from some other world, or inhabit some diametrically opposed point of view about what gaming is. To which I guess I can say, suit yourself...but it strikes me as unfortunate.

Or on the flip side, that we have to have a lot in common with someone to get along with them.

Funnily enough, I haven't played nor read most of the games on your list.

Damn! I have to get keyed into the local game convention scene. Just moved and I seem to miss these things. Well, maybe a family road trip is in order this weekend....

Today I've got hope.

That's not good enough, J!

You need to read one so we can pick a fight! :D

No, he need to NOT read one to make the fight that much better.  Or more entertaining.  For me.  At least...

(sorry...only trying to help...)

One year the Egyptian Campaign staff came up to Winter War and they were all wearing official staf T-shirts.  We were all like "What are these kids doing on Jet turf?"  Then we had this sweet dance number.  But then Ben Grimm's older brother got stabbed.  Yancy Street's never been the same since.

Wait, what was I talking about again?

I went to the site and looked at "my life...' and I don't get it.  'Nic Girls' seems like cap, but that is me.  What is it?  Please just give me the main point.
