Hi
Does anyone play the One Ring Rpg, I have a hard copy in the post?
Any views on its system?

I bought the hardcopy and played a few test sessions with a friend.
It seems kinda clunky and unwieldy to me and just too abstract.
I sold my copy of the game.

Not to my tastes, but it seems pretty popular. I noticed they have dropped PDF support for ToR (not by their choice I believe, I think there were legal reasons), which makes it even less likely I will buy or support it.

Yea there is mixed opinion but ive picked it up quite cheap so will give it ago, you or anyone else  have a copy of the Words of the Wise pdf they could send me?

Id like to try it out but like you say the pdf,s have been pulled.

I don't have a copy of that unfortunately, I would love a copy tho as ToR background material is nice and I would have bought some of the background material if it was available on PDF.

Well maybe some one will have a copy they are willing to pass on, Im an old fogey so prefer hard copy but would like to see WOW as it seems to be the only other TOR source at the moment.

Yeah hardcopies are nice and I would primarily want a hardcopy, but I don't want to lug around physical books everywhere all the time, PDFs are great for just browsing on the go with a tablet and great to have on a table to search for rules etc..

So no PDF option is a big negative for me when deciding if I will buy an RPG or not.

I understand the pdf convenience and what it can mean to withdraw that facility. It certainly seems a point of withdrawl from the system by a few players on the cubicle 7 site.

I have a copy of WOW.
Many Thanks to the donor.

Playtester, didn't really like it, but that was a few years ago now so I don't have any details to discuss.

I played through two adventures of it with one group and will soon be running my other group through it. I think it's a decent enough game. There are some aspects that I like a lot (the core mechanic and the combat), while I find some of the subsystems to be kind of lame (the travel mechanic, social tolerance, and I've yet to figure out how some of the advancement is supposed to work).  I enjoy it well enough, but wouldn't say it excites me.

I've run through two published adventures: The Marsh Bell and the first adventure in the Tales supplement. I don't think either is a paragon of adventure writing, but they were fun enough.

I say MERP/RM is still the best.  May not have been totally middle-earthy but still loved the feel of the game and the books for it.

I have ToR, just can't seem to get into it, seems pretty bland to me.  BTW, why did C7 pull the PDF's for this system?  Is it another WoTC reason, to combat piracy?

I think the overall quality of the product is good - a little expensive to get started but not terrible.

What concerns me is that it sounds like they planned on making multiple games based on regions. A bit too much like those versions of STRPGs, ie one for DS9, one for Next Generation, etc. Maybe its just a "how you cut the cake" argument but that rubs me the wrong way.

They havnt been clear on why they pulled the pdf,s. they havnt done it for their other games so I think it is more of a copyright question vs those that hold film rights and Tolkien Enterprises etc.
Syill it seems strange that you can continue with a print copy but not electronic unless that is the complaint of a third party.

My hard copy arrived earlier quick glance I see what they are getting at with the fellowship idea etc and the combat system seems to rely on party coop. I will see how it goes.

I think TOR is a very good Tolkien RPG. Its does have an odd mix of old and new mechanics but it hews closer to my preference for the traditional and preserving GM discretion at all steps.

It plays very well IME. Better than it reads by some way.

PDFs for the line have been pulled for licencing reasons that C7 are unable to reveal. This includes Words of the Wise.

Tales from Wilderland is an excellent adventure book. One of the best prewritten adventure books I have read. Providing 6 decent one shot adventures or a loose campaign spine.

Which one do you think is not decent?

The first adventure isn't really a decent one shot adventure. Its more a snapshot of things that happen on a journey through Mirkwood. Its good for that purpose (it helps establish Mirkwood as a seriously dangerous place) but it would be unsatsifactory as a stand alone experience. The fact that its almost half the size of the other 6 adventures reflects this too.
