This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anybody who thinks "Blue Moon" or "Shiner Bock" is anything other than "barely acceptable mass market pig piss" needs to be exterminated to save them from the pain of their own lack of palate.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

I'm not drinking beer for it to be tasty.  I'm drinking beer to get buzzed.  If I wanted 'tasty' I'd get Kool-Aid.  Or possibly tongue your pee hole.

Also, your quoted the wrong guy.

Quote from: Crawford Tillinghast;942051I really didn't want to go there.   But since you are forcing me ;) , this does not surprise me at all.  It's why is said "for having the same screen name", which is silly even by the RPGNet standards.  IIRC, there is at least one perma-ban there for a post here.  Banning for cross membership makes sense in that forum's reality.

I wasn't clear.  Let me rephrase:  Some gamergaters talked about the moderators.  The moderators banned everyone that joined during a small time period.  The dude saw that he was banned, and someone he knew supposedly gamed with one of the mods- and got the reason why he was banned.  Not sure if he was let back in or not, but they do get a little paranoid.

Gamergate seems to be the boogieman over there. Its dead, not just dead but decapitated, staked, burned to ashes, the ashes mixed with holy water, salt and silver dust then buried at 10 different crossroads. Gamergater is akin to Nazi on the tongue of many a geek and practically the same among the mundane yey they still whisper its name and cross themselves over it over there.

#gamergate is a perfect example of what losing a PR war looks like.

Reddit much? The MSM certainly passed its final judgement.  Of course, we also have an Orangutan sworn in as president as opposed to Grandma Nixon so maybe people are starting to realize that "the narrative" about anything is really just that...a made-up story.  But we're definitely NOT supposed to talk about GamerGate in this forum, this thread will move again if we keep it up.

Actually no. Is Gamergate still a thing there?

I stopped paying attention when actual shady practices in the gaming industry were ignored.

You could kind of say that, yeah.

Well, that's surprising.

The narrative has been that its this lurking danger waiting to come at you like Samira crawling out of a tv on places like tbp and of a similar  while I haven't seen anything about it for quite awhile in the circles I'm in. Seems deader than disco. But if it still has an actual presence and support on Reddit then I stand corrected.

I'm not at all joking in saying the person on dragonsfoot.org who posted this (Methen) has over the years posted several threads on AD&D butt-hurt. If you care to check his profile and past threads he's created, by all means do so. IMO, Methen is the poster boy for the "modern gamer": storytelling games, little DM authority, etc. Pundit would get a kick out it.

It is still active.  I actually have people I associate with who are still involved, but considering I haven't bought a console game in years, it just doesn't have the appeal.  Most of what I was concerned with went out the window.

ME:  "Wow, holy shit- this game charged people full price for a non-working product.  And you can't complete the story without buying release-date DLC."

GAMERGATERS:  "But Brianna Wu said Gamergate was a bunch of losers!"

ME:  "People are... getting ripped off and scammed here, and the journalists aren't calling this out.  I don't give a shit about some unhinged transgender woman, stupid opinions on Twitter aren't a matter of ethics."

GAMERGATERS:  "CUCK!"

Huh. that is surprising. Most of the times GG has come up that I've experienced in recent memory its immediately shut down, shouted down or both regardless of what's being said and figures like Wu and Quinn are essentially unimpeachable goddesses. It appears to be one of the groups that equally hated by virtually all the "sides" in the Culture Wars.

The most unusual "Player right" I've personally encountered was a player that insisted she had didn't only have veto power over romanantic seduction attempts on her PC but for any of "her" NPCs: contacts, Followers, named characters in her background etc.

In addition, she demanded that no one that didn't fit her charater's specific orientation even try to romantically/sexually seduce (apprently even if it was an out-fail?) but that her PC be allowed to freely do so even if the NPCs orientation didn't match up though she allowed for some penalty to the dice roll, IIRC.

I'm confused... I thought the GG people were the ones (supposedly) concerned about game journalism... but you make it sound the other way 'round.
A guy in my old RPG group accused me of being GG because I said both sides had a bunch of cretins spouting nonsense... which also made no sense to me.

I'd say she needed to be reminded of YOUR right not to play with nutjobs.
