The Knight of Hope!
« on: December 29, 2020, 10:55:02 PM »
Greetings!

In this short video, live combat is shown between a knight armoured in full plate, fighting against multiple attackers. The company is a European medieval weapons and re-enactment association. Excellent video, demonstrating the toughness and skills of a well-trained knight against swarms of lesser warriors--in this instance, a band of brigands.

Cool short subject. It really suits your unique style! Loved it!
However,
the right tools for the right job ~ WATCH THIS to see how a 'warhammer' would work against this armor! (I was going to use this vid as a troll one day, and even though the vtuber is stoopid as hell, it still provides an interesting counter-point, as suits my style!) About 42 seconds in... but beware of the sound!

It's decently choreographed but aside of few moments it's mostly - let's attack him one of a time just very well done. Those guys are like stupid amateurs even for brigands.

That's because in AD&D1e terms, they're less than 1 hit dice. Less than 1 hit dice creatures are not tactically smart.

That's why the escaping woman didn't take the blade she'd used to free herself. Didn't know how to fight, only thought of escape - she was 0-level, too. And she wasn't even smart about escaping - while the knight kept the men busy and they cleaned up their wounded afterwards, she could have fled into the forest.

Part of being higher level is smarter tactics. This is reflected in things like a fighter getting their level in attacks against less than 1HD creatures each round (and the fight is only a few rounds) and rising hit points.

In the clip, the knight finishes off 3 of the 4 guys in the first minute - which is a combat round, that's from about 6'20" into the video.

In the second combat round from about 7'20" onward, several more appear from their lair, this second round is mostly them setting up and him waiting for them.

In the third round from 8'20" on, they fight. Missile fire comes first, but they have just one javelin, it misses. Then melee begins.

He fells seven guys in this first minute.

Meanwhile another guy is loading a crossbow to be ready in the fourth round, which begins with the crossbowman firing at 9'15" ("plink!"), and the knight's own missile fire - flying his hand axe. That's one guy down. He takes out another five guys in this round, but one of them obviously rolled 20 (to hit armour class 2) with his spear.

He kills the spearmen who'd stabbed him, and is surrounded by a few guys who get some flank and rear attacks with bonuses and so are able to hit and do some damage, he kills a 5th guy for that round, and is now staggering from a dozen wounds.

He's on low hit points going into the fifth round from 10'00" on. Again they get him from flank and rear and cause wounds, but he takes out another 5-6 and the combat is over, round #6 has no combat action.

Notice too that the woman prays to her amulet, it disappears - and that's when we see the knight appear in a flash of light. After the combat he gives her the amulet and strides off, disappearing in light at 11'30", which would have been the end of the sixth combat round, had there been one. So I conclude that the Amulet of Hope summons a 5th level fighter in plate mail who fights for 6 rounds and then disappears. Usable by Lawful Good characters only.

Once again, AD&D1e got it right.

Yep. Warfare tactics and tech is interesting to no-end!
I just kinda wish we were back in that era...
for reasons.

Oh yes, I have seen that one before. Pretty cool. I always thought his helmet looked a bit odd. A sort of barbute I suppose, but very closely approaching the look of an ancient Corinthian helmet. Any idea if it is based on a medieval historical example?

As a side note on knights protecting women: Have you noticed how feminists love to hate on chivalry? I don't know how many times I have seen SJWs pretending it never did any good for women. Or stating that medieval chivalry "actually" had nothing to do with the courteous treatment of women. But it did. It was actually understood as part of the European martial code in many areas. Does not mean that all knights or nobles cared about it, but it was certainly an ideal of the time.

Hi, Trond! Yeah, the plate-mail armoured knight was fun! I saw a few response videos by Shallagrim, and another guy--evidently they are medieval weapons and combat experts, and both of the response video I saw liked this video very much, applauding this company's realistic showcase of just how formidable a plate armoured knight really was to an average warrior of the time.

Indeed, the Feminists get outraged about everything! I also despise them because they have absolutely zero respect for genuine history, and seek to distort and lie about real history all the time! Feminists are disgusting and pathetic.

Excellent, Thondor! Indeed, I have loved this video from the first time I saw it.

I've watched it many times, now, and I am always amazed by some of the fleeting details, that I find intriguing.

Notice, in the early part of the video, the expression on the young girl's face, upon the arrival of the mighty knight. Her expression is one that says, "Oh my God! What the fuck?" She seems absolutely overwhelmed with joy and gratitude.

Then, the mighty Knight. From the very first when he strides forth, his entire demeanor is unflinchingly courageous and filled with determination and wrath. His confidence and certainty radiates from him like the rays of the sun. At no time, even a moment, does the Knight ever seem to be in fear of the brigands. He of course, must fight them, but he knows that they are done. They are fucked, and even after he crushes the first group--he has not the slightest concern for retreat, escape, or for his own safety. He even waits for the rest of the brigands to come to him, to be judged. Even though they wildly outnumber him, he knows he will be victorious.

Likewise, the brigands, while willing to fight the mighty Knight, even from the beginning, you can see the deep apprehension and doubt sweep through them, with the fear in their eyes. Despite outnumbering the mighty Knight, the brigands also seem to be struggling against the fearful knowledge that they also know that they are fucked.

And in the end, with all of the evil brigands crushed in defeat, the mighty Knight gives the young girl back her blessed Amulet of St. Michael, grasps his sword, and strides back into the fog-shrouded light, all without so much as a word.

And the young girl, again, left crying in joy and redemption, for she has been saved.

Magnificent video!
