This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

You heard it here first, "4e: It's realistic."

It perfectly maps to the reality of moving an arbitrary number of "squares" based on "race" during your "turn."  Just like life.

Squares are the worst. Use a whiteboard and a tape measure and then you don't have to worry about squares and crap. What used to be square blasts etc. become circles with a diameter in inches equal to the number of squares. I found it way easier to run battles in 4e doing that.
Running
The Pernicious Light, or The Wreckers of Sword Island;
A Goblin\'s Progress, or Of Cannons and Canons;
An Oration on the Dignity of Tash, or On the Elves and Their Lies
All for S&W Complete
Playing: Dark Heresy, WFRP 2e

I've actually been playing 4e as a skirmish-size mini wargame using "army lists" made from the Monster Vault using tape measure and round burst and blast templates.  Works a treat.

WotC is announcing something.  But nobody knows what it is. Or they do and they're not telling.  But it's happening this week.  Monday.  Or Tuesday.  In the morning.  Or the evening.  And it's going to be covered by the NYT.  Supposedly.  Maybe.

At least someone on the internet said so.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

Good to hear. I first started doing this because I didn't want to have to go find something covered in 1" squares to play 3.5, and when I went to 4e I just kept on doing the same thing.

Quote from: misterguignol;502017Q: Why does a Warlord shouting at you help you regain your Hit Points?
A: The Warlord's shouting unconsciously reminds you of your father shouting when you were a child, which triggers your Oedipal complex.  You shrug off your wounds and fight harder, not because you're inspired but because you want to prove to your father that you've stolen his penis metaphorically.  Because psychology.

I keep going back to that idea of making the Book of Erotic Fantasy for 4E.  In this case orgasm WOULD be a Daily, but leader classes would have their own high-level powers to help people recover their dailies.  Except they wouldn't be called leaders, they'd be called "fluffers."

Indeed, and yet here we have Darwinism.

Again, I think it's a very ill-chosen name.

Quote from: Darwinism;502108Also, 1-for-1 diagonal actually maps to reality better than 1-2-1.

Your grasp of high school level math is weak; the length of a line that transits two units in the x and y axis' would have a length of approx. 2.84 units, at 1.42 units per square transited.

1-1-1 = a deviation of .42 units per square
1-2-1 = a mean deviation of .09 units per square
1-2-1-2 = a mean deviation of .08 units per square

Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

Also, I can not get my head around the people who cannot handle counting diagonals, are they unable to use money of the calendar as well?

Every two diagonal squares = three squares of movement; dirt simple
Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerous ways, Lord V4der. Your sad  devotion to that ancient 4e religion has not helped you conjure up the Swarm Druid tables, or given you enough clairvoyance to find the OSR's  hidden fortress.

:rotfl: Well played, Stormbringer.

By god I wish I was a systems guy so I could assume the mantle of LordV4der. That would be soooo cool. Unlike Booth, these 4E guys, lack panache.
