This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Skywalker;600285Another interesting factoid is that Tenra started as a world setting for TORG (the writer was translating TORG into Japanese).

But TORG was a pre-storygame storygame (those dirty time travelling forgeites, I think they were a faction in Feng Shui) so QED Forge wharrgarbl swine hipsters swine.

Ghost Whistler

"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Quote from: Ghost Whistler;600342how do fates work?

You have a number of Fates which represent virtues, relationships, goals etc. When you exhibit these in scenes, you get Aiki (effectively drama points) from other players (you also get these for doing cool stuff).

At an intermission (aka a period of downtime like at the end of a session), you roll a Fate for each Aiki you have to generate Kiai (effectively XP). You may also change Fates at this time.

Spent Kiai becomes Karma. Hit 108 Karma and your PC becomes Asura. You can avoid this by removing or changing Fates.

Also, Tenra Bansho Zero is an anagram of Ron Hates No Zebra. Something's rotten with this game.

Or more insidious: Ron's Zebra Hate On. Obviously, its an attempt to destroying the black and white divisions that are fundamental to RPGing.

Ghost Whistler

So no preview/demo version available?

Not yet -- they haven't gotten a final "minimized size" layout version to kickstarters yet, so I'd imagine there's no finalized layout to get to prospective customers, either.  The website does have a handful of previews and the like, and a fairly robust blog that hasn't been updated lately but has a bit of previously released info.

Its just a question of looking at the list of names that are really excited about this game that makes it obvious that its going to be crap (either that, or they'll all be disappointed).

Oh, stop it :D With each of your posts, the game appears to be even better and my enjoyment of it rises.

I wouldn't want to be put on another list (my post count is under 30 and I'm already in Gleichman's People Who Called Me Subhuman And Evil list).

I consider my players group a very traditional one (the time we tried Burning Empires the only thing close to burning was the rulebook. So we stickied to
Warhammer 2nd Ed, Cthulhutech, Aquelarre and CoC while staying far away from the likes of Fiasco and Dogs in the Vineyard).

But yesterday we played our 3rd session of TBZ, and we are still having lots of fun. Of the RPG-not-storytelling kind of fun. Looking forward to next session and the fall of the Tachibana usurpers, with the help of Igami's pirate bands, Mino ji-samurai clans and the king of Hira mountains' tengus.

TBZ is impressive as fuck.

However, it's so sprawling both in terms of setting and rules, I'm pretty sure it's something I'll never quite bother to run as is and simply lift ideas from, primarily, setting.

I did the same thing with Anima -- huge amount of ideas lovingly rendered but christ, I'm not 15 any more and memorizing setting encyclopedias isn't my thing.
My rules and comments about good GMing:
  • Improvise as much as you can
  • A character sheet is a list of items that tell you what the story should be about
  • As a GM, say "maybe" and ask your players to justify a "yes"
  • Immersion isn\'t a dirty word.
  • Collectively, players are smarter than you and will think of things you never considered.

This is soooo much my attitude these days.  It always kinda was, but even more so now.

It even informs my game designs.  The target page count for Heaven's Shadow was only 64 pages, and while it's past that a bit now and headed away, I still aim to keep my games simple and easy to learn, and that includes the settings.

Plus, I've always been of the mind that the more shit the game designer writes into the setting, the less room he's leaving the GM to define his own shit.

Yea, good philosophy overall.

What is Heaven's Shadow?

Yeah, I'm with this also these days.  Love Barker and all that, but there's a fucking reason for why S. John Ross's Five Elements Essay has "Cliche" at the top of that list.

What is Heaven's Shadow?

Heaven's Shadow is my current project.  It's a D6/Mini Six powered game about assassins of God hunting half-demon Nephilim.

The pitch is here: http://www.indiegogo.com/heavensshadow?a=805122

I'll be working on a second round this week.
