This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The exact opposite is he hands out GURPS character sheets and then uses FUDGE to actually run the game :)

Quote from: CalithenaOut of curiosity, what do you see as 'the exact opposite'?

I make the players handle the PCs and ask them rules questions.

I like it with the right game. If the system is too complex, it's way too much work for the GM. I'd never do it with 3.x, but it'd work well with Unisystem.

Drew

As a player I like learning systems and applying my knowledge to tactics and character building.

As a GM I prefer everyone to understand at least the basics of the rules, and find that system melts into the background when this is the case anyway.

As an rpg'er in general I can't stand people who spend hours of in-game time debating rules or deliberating over tactical choices. I'll happily sit with them and experiment with the system away from the table, but once we start playing I have no patience for it.

The situation the OP described is that of ParanoiaXP. If PCs demonstrate rules knowledge, their characters can be killed.
