Just got this awesome new rpg. The setting is intriguing. Would love to discuss it with some other fans.  Anyone?

Spike

Wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I do have it.  What do you want to discuss about it?
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

If your not a fan I wouldn't bother you then. I have slews of topics from rules to setting. Otherwise send me a PM.

I'm a fan. Have not played it.

Start talking about them then.  I'm still reading it, haven't had a lot of time lately.  Generally not a big fan of Players Roll, but the setting is pretty interesting to me.  It seems like there might be a metaplot coming, based around the Waking of Davokar.

I own it, have only been able to run it twice, but found it to be really enjoyable.

Mechanically it is 'slim' BRP, yes you are rolling a D20, but it is rollunder and if you multiply the targets by 5 you could use a d100 if you wanted.

The player facing rolls are a nice way of cutting down the roll to hit -> roll to defend -> roll for damage and dropping it a couple of steps.

In play it is very fast, corruption can eat your character up (and the temptation is always there) and 'hitpoint bloat' doesn't exist as you will find out very quickly.

There is a big campaign of seven parts in the writing. First part is already released for the swedish version, but I can´t really say anything about it since I don´t have it. The guys behind Symbaroum loves big campaign arcs.

This is encouraging to know. Symbaroum is a game I really want to like, but I need something substantial to get things started. Real life isn't going to afford me the time to flesh it out myself.

Campaign arcs are awesome if, along the way, they include tons of useful-at-the-table details, maps, NPCs, monsters, etc.  If it's just some "Plot Point Outline" that says "Here's the overall story, now go put all the flesh, meat, and sinew on this skeleton", then I wish they wouldn't even bother, just write a couple paragraphs telling me the plot and the "Big Reveal About the Forest" and then be about their business of the next cool idea they have no intention of actually supporting.

Take, for example, The Enemy Within module Something Rotten in Kislev.  Rotten is right, holy cow that module stunk to high heaven.  But, it contained so much detail, that it was easy to simply erase the plot and retool it into something usable.

Sorry designers, but Plots are a dime a dozen, all of human history and literature gives any GM more than they'd use in a Transhuman lifetime.  The details are what makes it worthwhile.

Well, Järnringen wrote the longest and most detailed campaign arc I ever heard about: Undergångens Arvtagare (Heirs of the Apocalypse)* for the 2002 version of Mutant (not the same as Mutant:Year Zero). Which really fleshed out the world and metaplot book by book. I think the campaign for Symbaroum will do something similar.

I'm going to play in a simple introductory one-shot of Symbaroum this Sunday. I may let you know what I thought of it.

Yes, it's a little aggravating knowing it will take months to get some of the promised books. Starting a campaign with what feels like just the beginners set is something I don't normally do but in this case it's just too good to pass up.

I couldn't agree more. Give me region books, lore books, bestiaries, character books, spell and skill books...adventures I can handle!

I'm still open for an email exchange on rules, setting info or whatever.
