I have a weak spot for good deals on RPGs.  I found Marvel Superheros and Mutants & Masterminds for 60% off.  I have never played either or has any of the people I know played it.  I generaly just play D&D but I am at the point I want to try something different.  So my question is are either of them any good?   What are the pros and cons of the systems?

I have heard many good things about Mutants and Masterminds but I haver neve gotten to play it.  What do you like or not like about D&D?  That might give us a better idea of which system you would enjoy more.

Bones

It is really nothing in the D&D system that I like better than anyother, it is just what I have played for the past 24 years.

Which Marvel RPG was it? There were three very different ones. Also if you found a copy of M&M for 60% off there's a good chance it was the first edition,  so be careful.
Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what\'s on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.

Seven Astral Kings

We are in favor of Mutants & Masterminds. It has been determined that it is an acceptable system.

The Marvel was a hardbound book.  I guess I will have to take a closer look.

That means it's the Marvel Universe RPG by QED Games. It got some love at RPGnet but I was disappointed. Here are the reviews:

M&M 1E is not a bad game - just some loopholes that can lead to wackiness.

M&M 2E, while I have not actually played yet, I am in the planning stages for a campaign and from everything I can see they improved it a great deal and I am very happy with the changes.

I have never seen a Marvel game I liked - though the diceless one always intrigued me - I just never got a good look at it.

The Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game (diceless, uses cards to randomize) or Marvel Universe RPG (diceless, uses stones and isn't random)? The former's one of my favorite RPGs.

Ah, Marvel SAGA. You know that game ruined all other supers RPGs for me. It's the only one I've played that actually felt like a four-color comic book and nothing else since has come close.

Another vote for Mutants and Masterminds. If you understand D20 you'll fall into it. In addition, there's enough changes (no classes, no HP, only use one D20 to play, no AoO, etc.) to the D20/OGL to make it easier to play and a refreshing change. 1e is good but 2e is best.

I agree with everyrhing that SJ said.

I'm currently playing in a M&M 2e campaign and we are having a lot of fun.

Bones

Well I went with the M&M thanks for the help everyone.

Keeper of Secrets

Bones,

Did you get first ed. or second ed.?

M&M is a great game.  I say this a lot but it bears repeating:  It used to be that I felt all supers games sucked and it was a matter of trying to find the least sucky for my supers needs.  M&M changed all that and actually brought forth a great system.
