Star Wars Saga, D20 GMs dream come true

Quote from: GoOrangeI've read similar sentiments on many other threads or forums and would be surprised if WotC didn't put out a new modern game with the lighter rules. It would probably replace Savage Worlds in my collection as well.

I am really starting to appreciate games that cut down on GM prep time. I hope this trend with D20 continues.
Don't get me wrong, I'll always have a soft spot for Savage Worlds, but it has two things I do have a problem with...

#1 (minor) I never liked wound systems and have always liked HP systems.  Even though it is a fast mechanic for Savage Worlds (especially for mooks) I find HP systems much easier to use.

#2 (major!) I can't find people willing to play it! D20 (or WotC, if you prefer) is king when it comes to actually getting people to play!  If Modern Saga came out I would have no problem getting people to play it...hell, I wouldn't even have to convince them, I'd just say, "we are playing" and that would be the end of the discussion.

So yeah, IMHO, Modern Saga would be a very wise move.  D&D Saga would be nice...but I think Modern Saga would be a much wiser immediate decision.

P.S.  Perhaps WotC could test the market with some genre based pre-painted plastic mini packages, Heroes of Horror, Heroes of the Wild West, ect. ;)

P.P.S.  I think the actual "Saga" system has been dead and gone long enough that we can refer to the Star Wars version of D20 as the "saga system" without confusing the general public.

the Wound system is a major problem for me, in fact I would say that is the #1 reason we dont play it... do you have any suggestion on how to fix it?

Hmm. I saw the wound system as a positive thing. No more keeping track of hit points for every NPC.

for NPCs it wasnt the problem... it was the PC side of it

Nope, it's too integrated in the entire system.  Savage Worlds is a very good system design, IMHO, however, it makes it very hard to do simple houserules, as everything meshes together so well as written.

I would agree grubman. SAGA Modern would be a great next step for WotC to take to test the waters of the new SAGA system.
Star Wars SAGA = SAGA Future already right ? ;)
Next step in a Modern Age era SAGA game, then a Fantasy Setting (D&D of course).

Wasn't "Saga" the name of the Dragonlance-set card system?

I think both of those games used the "saga" diceless system...I never had either, so I hope I'm not giving out bad information here.

Sacrificial Lamb

I will buy this. I hope it's as good as people say. :)

King of Old School

I think we'll see a revamped edition of d20 Modern in line with the d20 variant in SECR, and sooner rather than later.  In fact, I think that may be one of the reasons why all further d20M books from Wizards (e.g. d20 Spectaculars) were pulled from the schedule.

OTOH, I think that D&D 4e will incorporate some but not nearly all of the new rules innovations.

I agree with all you said.

I think the biggest change to D&D4th will be the talent system, and streamlining of the combat system.  Possibly the skill system, but I don't think it will be as dramatic as we saw with Star Wars, since the dynamics of the Star Wars setting is much different than the average D&D adventure.

Agreed, though I think some sort of "skill picks" system might be implemented.  If we're very lucky, D&D will move to a condition track system.  That would clear up a lot of confusion, as the problem in D&D with conditions was / is the same as that in Star Wars D20.  i.e. what's the difference between dazed, dazzled, stunned, reeling, etc.?

Picked up my copy today. In going through the changes, there are a lot of things that make me wonder "Why didn't anyone think of this before?".
