Star Wars D6 vs. Open D6 vs. Mini-Six???

Every time I read a criticism of 1st edition, it is almost always something of this nature. Again, we NEVER had a problem with the system whatsoever. I will say that the Rules Companion introduced some great ideas I incorporated into my games, namely the Uncertainty Dice and a lot of the Force explanations.

I suppose I look at the game with deep rose colored glasses, but honestly, it truly captures the feel of the SW movies. It's not realistic at times, but SW isn't, either.

We never had a problem with D6 SW. We played it so you had to declare all your actions up front, aka I shoot twice and dodge so you took -2D off all three actions.

The first instance of a fix for the 1e game I found was in the GM's shield, with a two page (4 side) pullout making things clearer. Have it somewhere, definitely helps because as written in 1e it's not 100% clear.

Wasn't Perception used to determine initiative? Kind of makes sense - see when to act before someone else, sorta thing. I'd suggest all combatants make a free Perception roll at start of round and act in order. Make one roll for the mooks/stormtroopers. Strength in numbers is their thing, not actually being competent at anything.

Stormtrooper dodges.
If Stormtrooper fails to dodge and is killed, then his attack never happened.
if Stormtrooper dodges, then his attack happens at a die code as if his dodge had never happened - which makes no sense.
Either his attack occurred before the dodge, in which case it should happen whether or not the stormtrooper died; or his attack occurred after the dodge and should be penalized.

This would not work this way. The rules are as follows:

So the above situation would be like this:

Roark's player and the GM both announce that Roark and a Stormtrooper both fire at each other.
Before rolling each one decides whether he dodges. In this case Roark dodges, the Stormtrooper not.
As Dodge is a reaction skill, you can use it while doing whatever you announced:

Quoteyou can dodge and take another action in the same segment.
(Page 14.)

So both roll their die codes. The Stormtrooper rolls full die code, Roark subtracts 1D as he dodges while firing his blaster.
Roark still rolls higher so he goes first.
The Stormtrooper can't dodge anymore.
Now in Star Wars 1E if Roark hits, no matter which result is rolled, the Stormtrooper will fall prone (as result of being stunned, wounded, incapacitated and so on). Falling prone means he can't act anymore in this round. In this case the Stormtrooper's attack never happened. He never managed to act in his first time segment, Roark just was faster (despite dodging).
