This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So it was indeed FFG that got Star Wars

Not a huge surprise for people that followed some clues.  But it's official now.  FFG has the license.  They are launching a card and miniature game out of the gate.  But are planning on an RPG and who knows what else.

A co-op card game and what I'm betting is going to basically be a Star Wars re-skin of Wings of War, given what happened to that title.

Yeah based on what clues Matt dropped and the people who said "It's not us", FFG was really the only contender left.  It'll be good to see them have a huge revenue stream not based on GW.

It will be interesting to see how they are going to do the RPG.  They've got some designers over there who really love narrative-style mechanics, and arguably Star Wars is a much better fit for that then WFRP ever was.

This should be interesting. I wonder if they'll come up with a whole new system. If so, I hope it goes towards rule-lite with no minis required (fat chance).

So since FFG got it, does that mean my long ago joke about it being split into 3 RPG lines (one about playing jedi, one about playing smugglers, and one about playing bothan spies) ala the 40K games will actually happen?  Perish the thought.

Also, is it just me, or does FFG's business process seem to work like this?:
Step 1: Start a new, heavily-promoted game line
Step 2: Release a skeletal core game
Step 3: Follow up the skeletal core game with supplements that are overpriced and take forever to come out
Step 4: While the game line still feel half-finished, completely drop support and find a new game line and start over at step 1.

I'll check it out and give it a chance, but it will have to be really good to make me want to give up my d6 WEG Star Wars RPG.

Great, even less staff to focus on their existing rpg products.

Overreach yourselves much FFG?

AND a coop ccg? Oh dear. LotR doesn't work as a game, please stop with these failed projects.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Endless Flight

I have little interest in this.

I've been subjected to too many Star Wars RPGs over the last twenty five years.

I already have all of the Star Wars RPG stuff that I will ever need (Saga Edition).

The board games might be cool though.

I think many people have a go to game for Star Wars, Saga, D6, or their own adaptation.  That's going to make it a hard sale to existing gamers.  If done right, there's a chance it could attract Star Wars fans who don't play rpgs much, though it would require the right marketing and an easy to learn game.

Yep. That's what I am waiting for. A Descent/Mansions of Madness style Jedi/Clone Wars game would be good.

Insufficient Metal

Is the RPG going to be like the new Warhammer where you can only play pre-gens or whatever?

I'm kind of hoping they'll modify the old Fireborn system for it. I seriously doubt they would, and it'd probably be a death knell to the product if they did, but that was a seriously slick system that didn't get nearly the appreciation it deserved(same can be said of the game as a whole, really).

Way too early to tell. They haven't even announced an RPG yet.

Also, you seem misinformed, you can play your own PCs in WFRP3e, at least as much as most RPGs.
