This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So everybody knows the original tweet wasn't about the topic the Pundit claims it was about. It was on how pre 18th century borders were not tidy surveyed lines on a map.

Translation = a handful of crackpots on Twitter decided to troll people and say something inflammatory.

Stop the presses.

(C'mon, how would you like everyone to stigmatize gamers by the handful of crackpots who claimed that F.A.T.A.L. was a good idea?  +1 to Jeff.)

The post was retweeted 1500 times. It was retweeted by important people in the videogame and ttrpg industry, people with power and influence. If F.A.T.A.L. had that kind of support and promotion you might have a point.

The ENTIRE text of the original tweet was: (all caps) "STOP MAKING FANTASY SETTINGS CONSISTING OF CLEARLY DEFINED BORDERS BETWEEN ETHNOSTATES".

If you think that's meant to be mainly a quaint post of historical education about the curiosities of feudalism, and not about implying that all Western Kingdoms and nations were "Ethnostates" while simultaneously trying to promote the idea of no-borders, then I have a bridge to sell you.

Yes.

So yeah. Looks like an internet nitwit complaining that game makers can make ethnostates. Too friggin bad for zem. I'll make my game world full of ethnostates if I want. And I'll give them clearly defined borders because I'm the GM and I have a god's eye view of the setting.

And it's got 9.6K likes from drooling morons who clap like seals at anything "progressive".

If I did a post that said "geez you guys, don't you know that there were no medieval kingdoms that were Nazi Regimes? WHY do you keep making them that way??", then it is fair to say I'm setting up Control of Language in the assumption that is meant to make anyone who likes or designs fantasy kingdoms to seem like a Nazi-lover.

That's exactly what this tweet does. It leaves the options available (if you're stupid enough to fall for the Foucaultian control of language) to "Yes they were ethnostates", "i'm sorry for creating/liking ethnostates", "I also hate all fantasy settings for being ethnostates!" or "fuck you I love ethnostates". No matter what, the point is that anyone who responds to her with other than "yeah, down with settings based on reality!! Seattle2020Realms 4 evah" is going to by default be labelable as pro-ethnostate.

QuoteWhich village belonged to which country wasn't a question of surveyors drawing lines on a map, it was a question of who showed up to collect taxes and/or protect you from bandits or whatever.

The only well-defined borders were the ones along strong natural boundaries like...

And so on until a couple of posts later everybody stile piling in with their comments.

Give it a rest. Yes the opinion of the poster wasn't right for all time periods pre 18th century, the Limes of Rome anybody? It was a simplified take on history. Just as your video was a simplified take on the post itself meant to stir up outrage to market your products. You consistently refuse to post links and expect folks just to take your word for it when you post your videos. I only wish that ratman hadn't linked to it so I could have seen how long would take before you posed a link to refute my statements
