This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, after browsing the beta PDF, like why would I EVER give another penny to fucking WotC, Paizo, Green Ronin, whatever? This is a real roleplaying game, it's not some exercise in revisionist history.

Yeah you can replace a whole lot of rpg companies that went woke with the OSR alone.  Hell as those companies eventually crash and burn the OSR may actually be the future.

What's funny is that Kevin appears to be pretty "woke", but he hates social media, and is a talented writer. I think that most of us wouldn't hate "woke" material if it was written well.

His RPG catalog hits a lot of genres. Stars Without Number, Godbound, Other Dust, Silent Legions, Spears of the Dawn, Red Tides (not an RPG), and now Wolves of God. None of those are all that similar to each other while still being widely compatible if you want to genre mash. It's all good stuff and his work is an example of how RPGs can't get taken over. He's a one man-show with mass audience appeal that pumps out RPGs that get recommended by everyone. OSR in general is pretty great, but I feel like KC branched out with some games (like Godbound) and draws in more than just OSR fans (like with Stars Without Number).

I'll read Wolves of God when it finishes or when I run out on my current RPG-reading list.

I never knew I wanted to run a game about barely civilized Christian adventurers in Dark Ages England until I read "Wolves of God".
1. Some of you culture warriors are so committed to the bit you'll throw out any nuance or common sense in fear it's 'giving in' to the other side.

2. I'm a married homeowner with a career and a child. I won life. You can't insult me.

3. I work in a Prison, your tough guy act is boring.

How useful would it be for a game set in Britain in the 400s?

It's very much set in the 8th century; in the 5th century I think you're a lot less Christian Anglo-Saxons / pre-Vikings and a lot more post-Roman Briton / invading Angles & Saxons & Jutes, very mixed-religion with probable majority pagan (mixed Roman and Germanic?).

What I can say is read the 0.9 alpha; the style is *very* marked. One of my sons is running a game in 10th century Northumbria and bounced hard off the 8th century viewpoint.

Wait a second... The Kickstarter is saying December 2020 for estimated delivery. This seems a bit much. 14 months to completion?

Brasidas

Because it's his first venture into offset printing, I think he's being especially careful about delivery dates.

SineNomine

Assuming a completed PDF in March 2020, that means POD shipping is April 2020, but offset is listed as a 10 week turnaround from print file delivery to get the books to the fulfillment center. It won't be 10 weeks because it's never 10 weeks, and a basic guideline is to double the listed time to assume a five-month turnaround from March, making it August when the books get to the fulfillment house. That leaves four months of flex time in case of a slow final- and because a slow final is the critical failure point in that linkage, you don't move up the PDF delivery deadline before the offset ship deadline. All that does is expose you to overrun risk. Instead, you peg everything at the same time and give yourself the chance to happily surprise your customers with early PDF/POD delivery.
Other Dust, a standalone post-apocalyptic companion game to Stars Without Number.
Stars Without Number, a free retro-inspired sci-fi game of interstellar adventure.
Red Tide, a Labyrinth Lord-compatible sandbox toolkit and campaign setting

Kevin unlike many other kickstarter users is a very careful man.  He doesn't like to disappoint people and be late with his projects.  I mean compare Godbound to Exalted 3rd Edition for the contrast of performance if you want to.  Kevin is just removing any chance of failure that he could ever have is all.  Don't worry as Kevin is well known for getting his product done early.

I own two copies of Lion & Dragon. Am I supposed to buy three?
