This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Silverlion;721807It is also used for ability modifiers for Power Armor if you are Hitech hero and roll the body armor option--in fact that and resources are the only places that it explicitly references using the table that I recall..

The rolling for "Normal" humans is not something I've ever read, got a page reference? Because the Normal Human table actually allows stats up to Excellent (which is admittedly weak compared to other tables, and takes a high roll.)

I cant find it going thru the main book, but I know its not one of my houserules so it came from somewhere, but for all I know could have been an article I read in the 90s or something. Its good for making NPCs on the fly though.

I THINK it came from one of the Marvel-Philes in Dragon - one of Dale Donovan's pieces.

Because it's fun, here's another randomly created hero. I think this one can definitely be seen as 'street level'.

Potted History

Works for electronics company, saw the good works of Iron man and was a wannabe. So far, he's developed a pair of hi-tech gloves that measure scents in the air and give a readout which helps in tracking crims, acts as an earthing device against electrical attacks and degrades inorganic material.

He saw his work and thought that due to its powers he'd call himself Foxglove - then on second thoughts, decided that was a bit lame and chose Digitalis instead.

Halfblood is actually half-Fey. His mother being a beautiful human woman who was romanced by a Faerie Lord. The whirlwind affair was brief, but fond, and they parted on good terms, leaving Tobias Mother pregnant. As Tobias grew he always knew he was different and could "feel" things, no one else did. In time he turned to trying to determine why this was, he stumbled upon a hedge magician who saw the Faerie blood within him and began teaching him magic, which called to him like a moth to the flame. Now, he uses the magic to thwart Unseelie fey plots, demons and more as the hero Halfblood.

Sam was a budding antique collector, and occultist when he stumbled upon an old trunk at an Auction. No one bid on the sealed case, and curious as to what secrets it held Sam decided to take a chance. Since he was the only bidder he got it for a steal. It was only after he had the trunk that people told him of the "curse" surrounding its contents. Not the least bit fearful Sam investigated and discovered the "curse" was little more than fear of being haunted by the ghost of its former owner. The legend of course entirely tied to the mystical item within, the Cloak of Lost Shadows, allegedly it is sewn together from shadows stolen by a powerful magic wielder, who used the cloak to evil ends. However, finding now curse, and no black magic that he could tell, he tried it on and discovered the cloak allowed him to become as a ghost--a phantom. When someone attempted to rob the antique store where he worked, and roughed up the little old man who was his boss while he was away. Sam did what any vengeance minded able bodies person would do--he used the cloak to visit terror upon the ruffians. Since that time he had found delight in being a hero, protecting his neighborhood as a "friendly" ghost.

Real Name: Harris Hardy
Popularity: 10
Resources: None (if people knew the truth they would probably help him out.)

Harris Hardy is a homeless man who lives near the Church of St. Thom's (in campaign city.) He often does odd jobs for the church priest, and takes a meal when offered. One night when some teens were harassing the priest of St. Thoms, Harris heard and hefted a broken piece of an old tombstone and hit one of the teens with it from behind, nearly killing the boy. Harris hadn't realized their youth or their folly, and wept over the fallen boy. He barely escaped being arrested, but it was too late. For the broken headstone had once been used to hold down a terrible "monster" in its grave, and the curse of the monster found him penitent, and possessed him. Now when danger rises to the church of its area, he transforms into a massive stone monster, and protects the area. Just as the previous "monster" once did, as part of its own penance, for crimes it had once committed. The curse remains so long as he feels guilty, or dies of natural causes, until then, he is the Beast, and must guard his territory from harm.

Athletic and fit, the brilliant young man known as Hawke Murphy was going to college on a football scholarship, only in his first year he injured his knee and was unable to continue. Realizing the short career of a football player he dedicated himself to his second love--science. Unfettered by his football practice he found the time to dedicate to his studies, though difficult, he managed to pull straight A's. His new educational adviser, Dr. Lauren Williams, saw potential, and the ongoing struggle with his studies that the young man had. Using her leverage she managed to get a test dosage of an untried medication designed to treat certain neurochemical disorders, but testing had shown that it increased the efficiency of the users brain--making a marked increase in their intellect. Dosing the young man secretly it had an overwhelming effect--but also unlocked psychic potential in Hawke's mind. He discovered unintentionally his advisors illegal use of the drug, and with great regret turned her in--then began waiting for it to peter out as the thoughts of others overwhelmed him.

However, it seemed the effect was permanent, and the young man had to develop his own mental techniques to control his new powers. When a riot at school over animal testing began, he turned his powers against the rioters, and protected both the lives of the animals, and the people who were caught in the chaos. Since that time he's tried to utilize his powers for good.

Decibelle is a classic southern bell, raised to money and privileged and notably was very spoiled. Unfortunately, during her coming out party she was dumped by her then boyfriend and her mutant powers activated and she unleashed a sonic cacophony that destroyed the building she was in, before she managed to control herself.

Discovering their daughter was a mutant was too much for her parents and so they cut her off from all her friends, and sent her off to a private school, so she would be out of sight, and out of mind. She chafed under the rules of her private school and began rebelling in little ways, eventually she got caught shoplifting and was waiting for her parents to come bail her out--when they refused she had enough, and broke free with her sonic powers and has since then been a criminal and a thorn in the side of law enforcement. She's primarily a smash and grab burglar, with little interest in hurting people. (Other than her parents.)

Real Name: Missy Gomez

Missy, is the child of two meteorologists who chased tornadoes for a living.Thomas and Eileen Gomez.

As she grew under their home schooling she was very interested in technology, science, and meteorology, as was expected by her parents. As she grew however, she became disenchanted with the in-exact nature of the science of meteorology and began researching ways to not just predict the weather but control it. Turning aside her familial expectations for following in their footsteps she instead went and got an engineering degree, and began using it to build the tools her parents would used. Until tragedy struck. An unexpected tornado took her parents lives, and Missy was heartbroken for some time. When another tornado rose in the same area, she pushed herself even harder to complete her designs--and managed to develop the Windrider suit, a combination of Weather control device and weather investigation sensors, as well as being tough enough to keep the pilot alive. She turned her science into a profession--protecting people from the hazards of the weather, as best she could.

Note: Without her weather control powers the suit can merely glide at the dictate of the winds and thermals. She uses her powers to enhance that and allow her to fly. (Rolled Gliding power, but combined with Weather control, it really is flight.)

Faunaforce is a first generation exploration android, designed to blend in with natural animals as if it was one. In early tests it ran afoul of poachers that killed its creators and since that time has used its abilities to thwart poachers, ivory smugglers and more. It tends to nod deal with ordinary crime but can of course do so if it feels the need to, at the moment it is still finding its feet, and discovering the world of humanity, it is still confused by human complexities like gender, and abstracts.
