This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Interesting.  I'll definitely check it out.

They even did a movie based on the franchise, and want to turn it into a (TV? Direct-to-DVD?) series.

The very first teaser they put on the web in 2006 borrowed the look and feel and sound of Peter Jackson's LotR. (All trailers that came later were more their own beast.)
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

You know, that one doesn't look nearly as bad as some others I've seen, but in a way I wish people would stop doing this shit.

If your RPG is going to end up a full-length theatrical-release feature film, or a tv show on a major network, that's one thing. If its going to be a home-grown direct-to-DVD production, then you're basically just doing vanity press all over again.

It was meant to be a TV series, but they couldn't get a distribution deal after two years of trying.  Unable to find a deal for just their backdoor pilot, they gave up and put it out themselves.  A very noble failure, the true lesson--don't step outside your core competency--hasn't sunk in yet.  (They're getting into the Retail Store business now, directing fighting with the nearby most awesome store in the region that's five minutes from their [strike]warehouse[/strike] "event center".

Yeah the Midnight Chronicles movie has ok enough visuals but it's worse failure is that it's just horribly boring.  I think I made it about 30 mins into it before I just started fast forwarding to find something interesting then did that for about 45 minutes worth of movie before I gave up entirely.

For an epic/dark fantasy setting the movie was lacking everything that would make it so.  I meah hell there was barely any combat at all which is usually something you can at least hope to get a chuckle out of in a B movie.  No they tried to sell the idea on the plot and Acting!!! Both of which were dreadful.  Maybe it'd be good if you were really into the setting and fluff of the book, I don't know, I've never read it.

The book has some real lame fluff at times.

It includes Gnomes, ferchristsake!

Pundit should do a parody for Gnomemurdered.
Don\'t forget rule no. 2, noobs. Seriously, just don\'t post there. Those guys are nuts.

Speak your mind here without fear! They\'ll just lock the thread anyway.

My favorite RPGs of the 00

Usagi Yojimbo (Sanguine)
Capitán Alatriste

I also liked The Riddle of Steel and Savage Worlds a lot, but unlike Usagi Yojimbo and Capitán Alatriste, I didn't play them (we were going to try The Riddle of Steel but something went wrong).
Grając zaś w grę komputerową, być może zdarzyło się wam zapragnąć zejść z wyznaczonej przez autorów ścieżki i, miast zabić smoka i ożenić się z księżniczką, zabić księżniczkę i ożenić się ze smokiem.

Accurate enough. The core thing to know about the setting is that the Good Guys no longer have the upper hand and all those conveniences they used to rely on when Fighting the Good Fight, such as magical doohickies, the support of the people, being on the right side of the law, etc., are gone.

While the setting does occasionally remind of me some Tolkeinesque elements (such as powerful elven queens and dark, semi-sentient forests), on the whole I'd say it was not so Tolkeinesque.

It's a neck and neck tie between Savage Worlds Explorer's Edition, Aces and Eights and Warhammer FRP 2e. Seriously, I couldn't choose one of those over the others. Even when it comes time to run a game I have to make other people make that decision for me, 'cuz I love all three of these games and find them to be utterly fantastic. Right now I'm running Savage Worlds though. But man I would loooove to run the other two as well...

...see? There I go again.

So they want to relive the failure that was the Wizards of the Coast Game Center in Seattle?

(Which was a thousand flavours of awesome - it just wasn't profitable.)

Savage Worlds
Star Wars Saga Edition
Warhammer 2E
Swords and Wizardry White Box Edition

My favorite out of these is probably Exalted.
