This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Total agreement there, from all sides too.

Yes, that's harsh but as far as I've seen, a truth where I live. It's a stereotype that has a real basis. I'd be called a bigot and racist and white scum for pointing that out. Sadly, there are a lot of local natives who are leeches and do nothing to better themselves, even with the metric fuck-ton of free help available. It's shameful. And what do shamed people often do?

Judging a group of people by a prejudice is the very definition of racism. You know Native Americans who are lazy bums? I know white, Chinese, Japanese, black and tan people who are lazy bums. I also know Native Americans who are accomplished artists, musicians, politicians, educators, rights advocates, doctors, and businessmen. To assume something about any individual by their genetic lineage is frankly retarded, and displays only your lack of education and self-awareness. Merely the idea that you can make a sweeping judgement about a population of millions of people stretched across an entire continent based on your incredibly limited interactions in the area you happen to live is the height of willful ignorance.

Quote from: theye1;820764It's completely disingenuous to claim that the SJWs are ones arguing Tolkien is racist. White supremacists were claiming Tolkien as one of their own for decades. LotR is massively popular in white supremacists circles, because it's themes are easily compatible with their ideology.

I didn't know we were now in the habit of taking seriously the literary analysis of Stormfront.

Quote from: BedrockBrendan;820842No you are a racist. I am not a fan of political correctness. But I also know when someone is hiding behind complaints about PC stuff to be a racist. This isn't indelicate, political incorrect speech your throwing around. This is classic racism:

Do I see a Native and just hate them? Or think bad things should happen to them? I don't like it when anyone uses PC crap or is a leech who blames others, but since we're talking about Natives and I'm white, calling out the negatives I've seen is racist. Bullshit. No. I'm not hiding behind PC, I'm tired of hearing about racism and being called racist just because I mentioned a truth. A truth that the PC brigade crusaders don't want to recognize and instead go after some fantasy game snippet and possibly ruin somebody.

It's the sad truth that millions (at least) go to casinos but when you see the res what's there? Low-income, trashy neighborhoods. How many Natives head to the bar the day they get a check from the government? Enough that's it's a local joke. Go to the res as a white guy and see the looks you get. Or ask my white friend how he's treated by Natives because he married a woman with Native blood.

Those are real problems and the sources can be debated, but going after an RPG isn't helpful. It's an attention-grabbing distraction and when somebody points out real problems, it's met with cries of racism or blaming the white man.

Well, if the white guys they know are like you, I can sort of see why they'd give you looks.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

As a Native American, I can assure you that I pay for my own liquor. Thanks!
It takes considerable knowledge just to realize the extent of your own ignorance.

Yeah, I should've qualified it more. Of course I don't think every Native is like that. That's stupid. But you don't know me and my naive assumption that people won't assume the worst and read into sarcasm online, well...

My point, whether you agree or not, is that the negative stereotype I pointed out is more prevalent than it should be. Is there an honest look at why? No, it's most often "Whitey did it!" than anything else and to see that petition made my blood boil.

Quote from: Alderaan Crumbs;820839So I point out a stereotype proved time and again and bring it up, but that's racist?

Yes. When you claim that it's been "proven" that all black people are criminals, but it's cool because you have a black friend and the real racists are the people talking about racism... that's pretty much textbook racism. Doing the exact same thing with Native Americans is, unsurprisingly, also textbook racism.
