Well true, it's not like they go slicing the BRP up into a few dozen (completely different) variants.

In many ways we have 3 key d100 variants, BRP from Chaosium, RQ6 from the Mongoose/DesignMechanism.
In many ways they are variants of the core RQ.

As an RQ virgin, would you say this is the easiest version to start? How's the book layout? Any quick start rule sections? Plenty of play examples?

The book layout is good, the PDF is hyper-linked up!
The layout is clean, not scared of white space, very readable even on a screen though it seems a bit of a hyphenate-quest as every other long word is split across lines.

The rules are fairly complete though I am still reading through the book at the moment.

OpenQuest is probably the easiest, IMO, but it's hard to go wrong.

Yep

I tend to use OpenQuest for inexperienced gamers and RuneQuest for more experienced. The mechanics are at their heart essentially the same but OQ doesn't have extra elaborations like hit locations, combat manoeuvres, etc.

That said, I switched one experienced group from RQ to OQ because they felt there were too many rolls and rule options: understandably many of the players didn't have the free time to read the rulebook thoroughly. I switched another less-experienced group from OQ to RQ because they were looking for more options.

I've got a question, do you know how much the hardcover POD version is going to cost? And when will it be available? I don't know whether to get the preorder now, or wait for the POD.

The hardcover POD will be $68 (soft cover $62), via DTRPG. The files are with DTRPG and they undergo inspection before being approved. I'm hoping the print options will be live early next week.

As these aren't direct sales, I can't offer them at the pre-order discount, so if you're looking to save some terces, then direct order via our/Moon's website is the best way to go.

The preorder discount is fine, and I heard you get more money that way. On the other hand, I'd love to have RQ6 in hardcover, and I have no issue with POD quality. I'll have to think it through.

One more question, will you offer the PDF for free with the POD?
