This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

"You got me there"

Seriously, I never posted bigtime on RPGNet. i´m just a concerned customer who spoke up too loudly about freedom of speech. Thus I stepped on several feet, unknowingly. I confess: the pundits praise brought me here.

I'm sure your banning has to do with bravely voicing an opinion in the face of stern opposition, and has nothing to do with taking the internet to seriously and being a humorless prig.

Well the RPGNet Mods take it too seriously. They don´t understand/like humor.
See, I got banned for disrespecting Borgstroms c-class drivel. I don´t see no "high-road", or taking stuff seriously on my side with that.
And the two guys that got banned for an April´s Fool?
Or AnimalBrasky?
I don´t see any humour on the Mod side there. Maybe in your universe, they are the cuddliest, wisest and coolest. So be it.But they never showed humour in their rulings.

Oh, RPGnet's moderation is pretty much random and arbitrary.  Can't argue that.

C'mon, if I want to read humorous axe grinding over RPGnet, I read the Pundit, which I do every day.
Here, I expect epic battles over the impact and value of Burning Wheel!

Let's go folks, time to develop an intractable opinion! I wanna see flashing blades and blood!
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.

A lack of moderation doesn't mean saying every asshole thing that pops into your head.

That's true, but I've never had any problems with it -- and I've expressed some relatively unpopular political views over there in Tangency.

Most of my conversations at RPGnet about games that I like -- WFRP, C&C, True20, Angel/Buffy, etc. -- have been very constructive and helpful.  The place also has its share of vehement d20 defenders, so I've never understood the claim that there is a general 'anti-d20 ethos' permeating the place.  (Though never: (a.) criticise Exalted; and (b.) compare the merits of JRRR Tolkien versus RE Howard.  The results are invariably ugly.  Ugh!)

I guess I've just been fortunate in missing all the heavy-handed censorship there?

Me neither.  I have a sneaking suspician that 'disrespecting Borgstrom's drivel' was seen as a personal attack on Rebecca, who is indeed a poster there.  And is forbidden.  Luckily, we have no such rule here.  :p

Do we have any rules?

Why, it does seem we do..

Quote from: The Charter
Speak your mind here, without fear! Our administrators and moderators (also known as "Nutkins") aren't in the business of censoring what other people have to say. They will let you have total freedom to be yourself, but people who are consistently looking to start trouble while contributing nothing to the community will suffer the consequences. If you personally don't like a thread, then don't read it.

Starting a thread expressly for the purpose of making a personal attack is really playing with the part I bolded. Of course, the Nutkins and I are looking for trends of bad behavior, not necessarily isolated instances.  When consequences come I promise you they will be unique and fun. Banning?  There are more fun things to do :heh:

Hey, where is the PA in this thread?
Curt does believe in "strong state"  policies, so that  the mods censor for the greater good. I don´t see any disrespect in comparing a person to a Washington Post journalist.
Especially as the videoclip is not biased or a purposeful lampoonation (neologism?) of the said journalist.

I might despise this line of thinking, but that doesn´t change the original unchanged and unbiased nature of the vid.

Ahem.

We have no intention of moderating much.  But if a Nutkin says you are engaging in a personal attack and to watch your step, IT IS TRUTH.  This is not a democracy.  You don't get to decide what is what.  Mind your manners or you may wake up in a whorehouse in Slovakia with no pants on and your cock painted green.
