Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

There was a massage about an administration account suffering a security breach and now the entire site appears to be down. Any other news?

Given your sig, I wonder why you care.

Schadenfreude?

More seriously, there are some people that I like that still post there and though its much rarer these days (and has an oppressive sense of gloom) there's some interesting conversations there still. There's also a sense of morbid nostalgia. Like watching the old neighborhood where you grew up go to shit.

Looks like Matt Ceb's account was compromised.

As much of a shit show and slow motion car crash, it still sucks.

Could it be they finally pissed off someone with actual hacking skills?

Honestly, it's sad, I fully expect that one day the internet will cease to exist due to the level of hacking and general bad faith abuses.

Similarly we'll be back to using cash due to identity theft scams.

But really, after all this time I'm a bit surprised it didn't happen sooner and more destructively.

It isn't that I approve or am applauding but all the same, it seems inevitable.

It will be a hassle for them for a few days and that will be that.

Good grief. Who would have such a grudge against a message board that they'd waste their time hacking it?

Quixotism.  Look at it this way:

"A monolithic cabal; all powerful, answering to no one for their abuses.
"Enter a lone hero..."

Nah.  Can't see how that scenario would ever cross a gamer's mind.  ;)

Gamer?  You've just describe a good chunk of human fiction.

I'm sorry they got hacked, but given their arbitrary and ban-happy nature combined with their "no differing opinions allowed" policy, I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

Still, I hope they get back on their feet for the sake of the few rational members left. Maybe this may cause the mods to rethink their policies...ah, who am I kidding? If anything, this will only make them more paranoid and tyrannical.

True.  What I'm saying is that the ratio of people who would mount up and tilt at a windmill is much higher in our hobby circle than in most others.

Honestly, I think it's more that some random person found RPG.net vulnerable and nailed it for his jollies.

I doubt that the hacking will make them change anything other than their security. If anything, they'll dig in deeper into their stances.
