This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's extremely heavy on everything. Those boardgaming code monkeys are OUT OF CONTROL.

BGG is a great site, though.

I discovered a ton of games I want but can't afford. Compared to ebay prices for old wargames with UNPUNCHED counters (naturally), those for RPGs are nothing.

Got in, registered an account (as foster1941, because apparently they didn't like the period and/or the space in "T. Foster") and was happily adding products to my collection and/or giving them ratings until the site went down for maintenance.

Dumb question: is the "game play weight" rating an indication of how often you've played the game ("light" = I've only played it a bit to "heavy" = I played it a ton) or how hard you think the game is to play ("light" = it's really easy to "heavy" = it's really hard). I was rating products on the former basis and then realized (after I'd already rated 20 or so products) that it's probably supposed to be the latter. Oh well...

Registering your game library is primarily to facilitate trading/selling, so the play weight is how heavily you've played this game. It's a measure of the condition the game is likely in, I guess. It's also a holdover from the board-game database and may be less relevant to games that are just books.

It's officially how hard is the game to play. It's held over from the BGG side.

Light games are quick to learn and easy to play. Heavy games are  brain burners.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of Geek-Do.  As for the charge that Story Games requires more creative input from players than Traditional RPGs, I have to agree.

I am not a fan of narrative gaming, but it is more difficult to develop a scene for your character and narrate it out than what most players are expected to contribute in trad RPGs.

Quote from: mhensley;319807Just wait until they start referring to non-indie rpg's as ameritrash games.

Ugh...so true.

However, its quite humorous how Euro games have become glossier and more thematic...the supposed definition of Ameritrash games.

You are one serious douchebag.  Almost everything you post seems to be done so according to an innane Mad Libs style template.  "That most recently mentioned website is full of defamatory verb body part(s)/sex act(s).  I used to visit above referenced site, but the gays/faggots/cock-suckers aren't as interesting as those at site Y, but then, they're all family member(s)/pet(s) fuckers/suckers/wankers too."

There is no way in hell anyone puts up with you around a game table...

Quote from: J Arcane;319804Ehh.  We'll see.  BGG is fraught with pretentious motherfuckery, if you look at the wrong places, but you can just as easily go your entire time there without ever seeing it.  There's definitely bias towards certain sorts of games, or at least against mainstream games of the sort found in dept. and toy stores.

Whether RPG version will succumb to same is still out, and I haven't looked into it much.  Personally, I'm less concerned with the idiot forgistas, than I am with the RPGnetters, trying to bend the site's ratings to suit their peculiar tastes like they did with their own useless index site.

WHAT exactly is it that has offended Sett?

When I clicked on the link I got a "Website temprarily down" sign after clicking on it.

As far as BoardGameGeek.com starting a website devoted to RPGs - I've known about that for awhile now. Several of the regular customers at the store are subscribers of BoardgameGeek.com. We woud up putting a link to that site on our store computer to help track and find the games they were interested in buying.

A forgite and Sett are arguing about the use of the term "indie game"... the forgite, of course, is being eloquent and snide at the same time. The forgite is also obviously on a very different wavelength from the majority, while sett is pretty close to the mainline view.

BTW, RPGG is the same server as BGG. Same DBase, too. So if RPGG is down, so is the main BGG.

Quote from: Some Story Gamer Sett was arguing withMost traditional games call on players to be more tactical, clever, and even more dramatic than in most Story Games. Traditional RPGs also require a lot more creativity from the GM than most S-Gs do. The way I've seen Traditional RPGs and S-Gs played, the former often results in more "in character" play than the latter.
Uh, isn't this a pretty major concession for a Story Gamer?
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

It was refreshing to see the idea of "in character play" acknowledged, if that's what you mean. As well as the other stuff. But it's not like there's an official platform.
