This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

In a Fantasy Kingdom, What if DESTINY and Kim Kardashian Were the Monarchs?

Greetings!

*Laughing* I was contemplating politics in a different region of my campaign world of Thandor, and thinking about monarchs and rulership. History often provides examples of the absolutely most terrible people being in positions of leadership--including powerful, noble kingdoms and vast empires.

So, I wondered. What if someone like DESTINY was the realms king, and Kim Kardashian was the queen? Or Megan Thee Stallion, or the WAP chick. What would such a kingdom look like? How would the people, the society, and culture be shaped, and changed?

They would have been assassinated while they were still in the royal court before they ascended to the throne. Some people are just too dumb to lead

Yeah, I tend to the opinion that historical monarchy was more self-correcting than people give it credit for. Truly inept monarchs tend to come to a rapid and sticky end.
Playing: Mongoose Traveller 2e
Running: On Hiatus
Planning: Too many things, and I should probably commit to one.

The campaign could revolve around the Queen's many extramarital affairs.  Or figuring out who is the Prince's real father?

If the ruler is disconnected from the reigns of power and apparatus of the state in intact, then the ruler could be pretty incompetent. Competent political figures below them keep the rulers there as figureheads. The Japanese emperor after the first few generations would be a good example. The emperors of Rome, on the other hand, worked to dismantle the state as it was a challenge to their power. That system could work with a competent ruler, but could fail disastrously with bad rulers.

I'm not sure it would go the way we're all thinking.

While I GM that game, trying to get the PC's into a position to overthrow these two, my GM honed inner logic says the NPC's of this world would depose and hang them on their own.
I'm glad for you if you like the top selling game of the genre.  Me, I like the road less travelled, and will be the player asking we try a game you've never heard of.

*Laughing* Yeah, Jeff, one would certainly think so!

Previous to our current age of mass stupidity, even society's elites often prided themselves on their worthiness, leadership, skill, and efficiency. We can see this kind of social currency in effect throughout cultures, from Rome and ancient Greece, to India and China. The lower echelons of society also extended respect and obedience partially based upon this kind of social contract. The elites had a kind of obligation and duty to actually be effective, responsible, and strong leaders.

I still think it is darkly hysterical to think of clowns like Destiny and Kim Kardashian being rulers of a fantasy, medieval kingdom. Seeing how, for example, they have so many followers and fans within our current society.

It's mind boggling to me, but also makes me laugh.

*Laughing* Yeah, that's right! Seeing how Destiny believes in embracing "Polyamory", "Open Marriages" and enjoys being a depraved cuck--while Kim, well, we know that she loves very much her own flavour of depravity and hedonism. Kim would have a whole stable of celebrated lovers lined up to constantly be involved with her.

The absolute chaos and insanity that would be constantly flowing with a royal ruling couple like this would be EPIC!

A week wouldn't go by without the bards in the taverns singing and telling stories about new drama and new scandals erupting at the Royal Court!

If you as absolute monarch had a border kingdom that was going to be crushed in an upcoming war, you could put them in charge of it. If they survive and win, then maybe they can be useful. If they fail and die, you have gotten rid of a weak link and slowed down the enemy advance. That is the only way I can see it working.
