This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Having recently become interested in Swords and Wizardry and playing in an OSRIC game, I've decided to ask for retro-game links.

Games in the style of d%/BRP
GORE - Rulebook and a few supplements

Games in the style of D&D
Epees & Sorcellerie - A french '0e' varient. Not much to the site.
Microlite74 - A 'Micro' retro variant game based on 0e.
Microlite20 - An even more micro version of Microlite74.
Spellcraft and Swordplay - A '0e' style variant, with supplements.
Swords and Wizardry - A '0e' retro revival game. OGL. Also contains some supplementary material.
Basic Fantasy - A 'B/X' retro variant, with many supplements.
Labyrinth Lord A B/X retro variant. I didn't see much in the way of supplements.
OSRIC - A '1e' retro revival game. OGL

Games in the style of Gamma World
Mutant Future - A retro variant based on Labyrinth Lord. Almost nothing for supplements.

Games in the style of James Bond 007
DoubleZero - Consists of a single text file.

Games in the style of Marvel Superheroes
Four Color System - Consists of core rules and a single supplement.

Games in the style of Traveler
SPACER - A 21st-century sci-fi game, based on the six-letter system.

Original
GAMERS - 'GAMERS is a roleplaying game harking back to the simple days of gaming. It requires pencil, paper, and five six-sided dice per player. It's the generic version of the Six-Letter System, a series of games with the same mechanics, only the names of the basic six attributes changed, and all given six-letter titles which are mnemonics for those attributes.'
Maelstrom - A re-release of a 1984 fantasy RPG. Has a few supplements and promises more.
Mazes and Minataurs - Attemps to answer the question 'What if gaming had been based on greek mythology?', complete with alternate timeline.

Original Web Add-ons
Random Dungeon Generator - Mutant Future/Labyrinth Lord/Tunnels and Trolls.

Miscellaneous
Kellri - A server full of 'Stuff'?.

There are others, such as Microlite20, which are not strictly-speaking clones, they've just taken some mechanics from another game and made their own. It's more of a fraternal than an identical twin ;)

...And now that all the links are in one place (Thanks), maybe add it to the RPG links thread? I looked and didn't see anything like this (Granted, I'm tired and it's late)

The Big List of Links is for general rpg stuff, not specific game systems. With over 2,000 published rpgs, it'd just get too big to be useful.

Someone should host a list of retro-clone and tribute game links, just as John Kim does with free rpgs (though the retro-clones and tributes are usually free).

Do Mazes & Minotaurs or Encounter Critical count?

Narf the Mouse

Hmm...Maybe add an 'Original Retro Games' section to the links list...Of course, first I'll need a links list.

But sleep soon.

You can also come up with something that is not only original and creative and artistic, but also maybe even decent, or moral if I can use words like that, or something that\'s like basically good -Lester Bangs

Well, having the originals here will help who don't know retro, know what the 'clones' are about.

Microlite74 (0e)
...
Basic Fantasy (B/X)
...

Slight nitpick: these probably should be classified as 'variants', since they deviate too much from the original game to be called 'clones'.  (I'm pretty sure that the authors would all agree with this assessment.)

Did Mazes & Minotaurs really come out in 72? If so, could it be that's were Gygax and Arneson got their idea for Dungeon and....OMG :jaw-dropping:
"Crom!", mutterd the Cimmerian. " Here is the grandfather of all parrots. He must be a thousand years old! Look at the evil wisdom of his eyes. What mysteries do you guard, Wise Devil?"

The M&M people are the *Only* ones I can remember claiming that their game came out first.

Can anyone give a historical perspective? Old Geezer?
