This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Resources for BRP Sci Fi?

Quote from: Ian AbsentiaI think that's Translight you're thinking of.  It was supposed to be sort of BRP-based, and it was what Avenger Enterprises and ComStar turned their attentions toward when ACT (Avenger's Classic Traveller) got shit-canned.  I was going to include a link to the playtest document, but there appear to be a couple of different games out there sporting the "Translight" name.

That is indeed the one.  Any idea if it's coming out?  Or is it jsut more RPG-industry vapor ware?

Ian Absentia

The last update I could find on the status of Translight was from December 1, 2006:

http://www.comstar-games.com/index.php?disp=all

Scroll down to the third entry (as of today).  Note the emphasis on being "the skill based percentile system you have been awaiting." I've neither seen nor heard of anything since.

Here's the other link I was referring to:

http://www.stormcenter.net/~bagheera/translight/index.html

Same name, and vaguely Traveller-esque, but not BRP-ish.  Uses d6, not percentiles.

!i!

Quote from: zombenAre you saying that the system is BRP-like?  Or that they'd just be easy to convert?

The system is somewhat BRP-like, as in percentile roll-under. There are fairly large differences, though. It's more like an unholy union of BRP and Traveller, with some wierd stuff. My main RPG inspirations were Trav, Ringworld, and SPI Universe. Here's the free download, StarCluster LIGHT - not a lite version of the game, it's the full rules with limited chargen options. That said, I was really saying the supplements are easily converted to  BRP mechanics.

Sounds like something I should check out.  Thanks!

Heh, that's what I get for mowing the lawn for three hours last night (I got half done).

Oh well, Galaxies in Shadow is the total re-write of my Galactic Adventures rpg.  I never even got around to putting the finished and playtested original back up on my website yet.

It's creeping towards done.

You're probably better off with Star Cluster stuff at present.  Though I can e-mail you some files if you like.

GiS is going to be great when David finishes it. I loved the original GA, and have an earlier version of GiS, and like where it's headed. :D

FYI,

Translight by Comstar/Avenger games is still in the playtest stages.
It is using the BRP percentage system with modications for use in sci-fi games.
We are also playtesting the Far Avalon setting which will be Translight core setting.
If you would like to know more or maybe join in with the playtests then head over to http://traveller.comstar-games.com

Thanks,

Very cool; I'll check it out.  Are you guys licensing BRP from Chaosium?

We are using the OGL from Mongoose for Translight.

Thats an understatement :), with Translight we are also playtesting its setting Far Avalon and also Traveller:1248 Spinward States.
If your interested pop over to the site or email me (if you still have it) and take a look.

IMO FTL Now is still a classic game :)

I will! It looks really interesting. SC started from my wanting to make a BRP version of Traveller for my own amusement, before things started mutating, so I have a great deal of interest in your project. :D

I'm glad you think so! :D

Things are going very well, actually! We should have Glorianna released by the end of the year for StarCluster, probably In Harm's Way: Scum of the Earth as well, possibly the IHW submarine game, and the StarCluster System Toolkit as well. That would be six major releases in 2007. :D

Good I hope to see you over there.

Looks like you have as many things to do as me :)
2007/2008 is going to be a big year for us as well.

Ah.  Consider me less interested then.  No offense to you meant, I just have a bug up my ass about Mongoose OGLing a BRP derivation, and won't support their RQ at all.
