This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mature flag assigned since this delves a little into the dark side of love...

Last session the party confronted their former member, Demetri. The party rogue, Samara, is still intensely loyal to him, going so far as to shoot at other party members who attacked him despite him attacking her twice, once quite directly (making her the one and only target of a fireball).

I've decided to backchange the script to make the being they fought a doppleganger. Having a mandate to destroy the party from Triel the creatue isn't giving up, and it's decided after consulting with Triel to try to infiltrate the party and use Samara's love for Demetri as leverage to attack them.

The real Demetri is still alive and imprisoned by Triel while the lord figures out what to do with his soft hearted disobedient apprentice. In an effort to show a little deity intervention he'll begin to haunt her dreams at night - this will be the strongest clue the party, or more specifically Samara will get that something is amiss.

I can't wait to see the look on the player's face when she figures out she was intimate with a doppleganger (the players are, if not initimate, very close to it the way they pet around - the characters are known to be *close* - though how close the game hasn't touched on. The moment of betrayal would most likely be when she is most vulnerable, and I don't think too many guesses are required to figure out when that is.

Any ideas on this plot arc from the peanut gallery?

I think it sounds lovely. :)

Though there are lots of good moments for the "revelation." It would probably try to subvert her to the point of attacking or killing one of her comrades before getting close to thinking about revealing itself. Heck, it might NEVER come up, unless the doppleganger is killed and reverts to its natural form.
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.
