Ran my WFRP one shot

And it went petty well.

Except fot the fact that I didn't hurt the PCs. First fight they faced 8 gobos and in the second 5 ocrs + 1 black orc.

I think that I gave too much armor to the PCs.

I like the system.

The journeyman wizard kicked ass when he wasn't rolling doubles :)

Combat could be a bit faster tho.

At least everybody had fun.

Yeah know what to throw against characters takes a little getting used to.  Especially if you've never played before and are starting them in at around 2k experience.  Kind of the same as never playing D20 and starting characters out at 5th level and really knowing what kind of encounter to run.

Armour is a great equalizer in Warhammer.  But tactics are still extremely important.  Grouping on pc's and using disarms, stuns etc... can go a long way into making a fight tougher to suit your needs.

However 8 gobo's against experienced and well equiped PC's on a 1 for 1 stand up fight are no match.  They'd have to take full advantage of surprise and what not to put the challenge on.  However that doesn't mean that slaughtering a bunch of gobo's isn't a hell of a lot of fun for the PC's.

Combat also will get faster with familiarity.  I know our first combat took awhile as people weren't sure of exactly what to do or expect.  Now combats still take time to do but not because the players are unsure of the rules.  But because they are doing more with them.  Instead of just hacking at something until it dies they are doing maneouvers and positioning and all sorts of interesting tactics that their characters would know and use from their military backgrounds.  They are role-playing out the combats which is just great in my view.

Even with the +30%WS for outnumbering?

It just depends on how many of them are actually outnumbering.  If there are 4 party memebers and 8 gobo's then that's probably only +10ws and gobo's don't do a lot of damage on their own against well armoured and experienced opponents with their blocks and parries.   8 gob's against starting characters is a very tough fight.  Even more so if the gobo's set the stage for the fight.  Instead of doing 2 on 1 then go 3 on 1, 3 on 1, 1 on 1 and hope that the mobs take down the 2 players first and then mob the other two.

The party had soemthing lik 1500 xp. They only had a few advances in their seciond careers, just enough to get the fun stuff. I did them at second career so that priest would be able to cast spells.

But I like the system and will mot likely run a regular campaign for another group.
