This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: James McMurrayI've played it with Spacemaster and it worked great. There's even rules for tiering (or however it's spelled) in one of the sourcebooks.

Isn't the original Spacemaster setting a Dune rip-off?

I mean, it's a good one.  :D

Maybe. I have read enough Dune to know for sure. The setting definitely has some stuff from Dune in it, but there's other stuff from places like Star Wars and Star Trek too. I always figured it was an amalgam of various ripoffs, all thrown together in one gloriously wonderful stew. :)

Dune vs. Fading Suns: I originally bought FS when it came out because it sounded like a cool take on Dune.  Now I think the FS setting is way more interesting than Dune's, because it has more depth.  But I never liked the system in any of the published versions.

Quote from: Ian NobleThe great irony about all that money being spent on hard-to-find copies of LUG's Dune is that, well, it's not very good and depends almost completely on would-be supplements.

Yeah, my buddy in California dropped $300 on his copy only to later describe it to interested parties as "not being worth the cover price".

I ended up selling the 3 copies of the Dune RPG that I had on eBay, and with that money bought two copies of the Dune Encyclopedia (1 hardcover, 1 softcover), and all my RPG purchases for the next two years.

Only played one Dune game, though. One session, actually: An anime-themed Dune, using BESM (back at a Con a few years ago).

And to think, I was considering selling my Fading Suns stuff as part of my gaming collection cull.

Well, this thread's hit that right on the head.  Thank you, RPGSite, for saving me from making a terrible mistake.

Ahem. I do not condone this genre crossover, and neither does the world-spirit. Let´s pray for the soul of the DM.

Here's an amusing vartiant on the "fear is the mind killer" meme.

Also remember, "It is by caffeine alone that I set my mind in motion...."

(BTW, please don't quote this. This is a funny shirt and I don't want that ass sucker koltar to see it.)

P.S. While there, check out the whole site, it's worth it....

OF COURSE I DID not

I did always hate the music in that movie.

Funnily enough, I like the movie itself quite a bit.

Be sure to catch the version the SFC did, much better story and plot, if not up there on SFX and budget....
