Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

"...Punching Holes in the Walls of Reality..."

What surreal dimension-hopping/swashbuckling setting could you come up with for the line or lyric:

"...punching holes in the walls of reality..."

Think maybe the mood of Buckaroo Banzai or "Pushing Daisies".....
with a bit of Rock & Roll KELLY's HEROES thrown in....

Oh yeah - this song should probably be used in the opening credits if this hypothetical RPG campaign or scenario was a TV series:

Is that the name of a setting ?
Or a TV series that I've missed?
(if it is meant as a punchline - I don't know the full story)

Ignore the visuals in the video ...just listen to the mood of the song. (well some of the women dancing in it are rather NICE, so you can't ignore it all.)

52 (I think, although I don't see the connection- the link to the video isn't working)
Why do they call them "Random encounter tables" when there's nothing random about them? It's just the same stupid monsters over and over. You want random? Fine, make it really random. A hampstersaurus. A mucus salesman. A toenail golem. A troupe of fornicating clowns. David Hasselhoff. If your players don't start crying the moment you pick up the percent die, you're just babying them.

RPGPundit

According to the "infinite Crisis" storyline, the 52 universes came into being after a new multiverse had to be structured because the earth-prime superboy had been literally punching holes into the walls of reality.

God goes away on vacation for a week, leaving behind an office full of temps. The first day or so is fine but then the temps start to get squirrelly...xeroxing their bums, surfing the net for porn, firing nerf guns at one another...

And on the sixth day, one of the temps looks down on Earth and says, "Neat. Anyone want to go for lunch?" Now you have less than 36 hours before He comes back and you're all sent back to the agency.

You are sick and twisted, Jared! I like that in a game designer! :D

Quote from: Koltar"...punching holes in the walls of reality..."

I'm smelling Big Pig, the Australian proto-Stomp band with like 7 percussionists, a keyboardist and a guy who plays the harmonica, with their hit "Breakaway" (featured at the beginning of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=VS-hpXmyGpo

The synthesized crap is a little dated, but their songs were pretty innovative for the time. They were like a German-Industrial version of Rusted Root.

Unfortunately, the lyric ties me to the band (which I used to love back in the early 90s), so the only thing I can think of it a game where you play guys in black tank-tops who use Percussion Instruments to destroy an alien menace or something.

Fine Thing was another of their songs that was popular, because it was one of those fruit juice company's jingle.

Koltar

Andy K. for the win.

 YES - that song exactly.

Seven months ago there used to be better versions of it up on YouTube.

Try to FORGET the visuals of that video asnd just concentrate on the mood /vibe and lyrics of that song.

Plus that throbbing beat. That helps to set the tone.

Now imagine a role-paying game where that would be the opening credits music if it was a TV show.

Think dimension-hopping or paralell timeline traveling with an adventuring group that has the attitude of the Hon Kong Caveliers.

The theme music of the first season of SLIDERS is the right mindset as well.

This is the one it was supposed to link to :

http://youtube.com/watch?v=obqNCuz0VSY

Thats a new version with Inaya Day - A House mix singer, but she sounds dead on the original lead singer.

Instead of that remote control doo-hickie from SLIDERS  - how about either a high-tech walking stick or magic staff that the team leader would dance with or gesture with when changing dimensions.

"Team, Lets Dance away to the next adventure!!"

(One, Two, Three,  STEP!! and burst of special effects!!)

Yeah, I don't like that version you put up Koltar...it's just doesn't jibe with the Big Pig version in my head.

And you know how the voices in there get upset about that. Then it gets harder to ignore all the "kill them all" and "I'm going to tear you into little pieces."

Whatever version you prefer is cool.

I, too prefer the original version by BIG PIG - but the better stereo versions of that one got yanked from YouTube.

Point is, it was that song that inspired the idea fotr a campaign setting.

I often get ideas from songs and bits of music that I really, really like.
