This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

With many RPGs now having methods that allow 3PP to create and sell their own products for those games, does anybody have a clue as to how well or dismally those businesses are doing? I'm assuming that D&D 5E is still the 800 pound gorilla in the room, but what about all the rest? How is the 3PP business doing overall and in particular?
"Meh."

Based on that they keep putting out products with larger page counts, I'd surmise Cubicle 7's Call of Cthulhu products are doing reasonably well.

It not manna from heaven but it worthwhile if you work at it. And you are honest with yourself about what you authored so that you continue to learn creatively.

I earned a couple of grand from my efforts which amount to my hobby paying for itself. I could have earned more if I could write faster and gotten more stuff out there. But that on me and nothing to do with with mysterious market forces or hidden internet cabals. Rather due to the fact I have a full time job, a wife I love, boys that I am raising, and interests other than tabletop roleplaying. So I try to carve out an hour a day to do some writing and what I get done is what I get done.
