Title: Post your latest acquisitions
Post by: myleftnut on December 22, 2020, 11:42:50 PM
This is a thread for the collectors.  What books have you recently obtained?  I’d like to see them.    :o

Cyberpunk Red.  I’m a big fan of 2020 in theory since I’ve never played it. I had to get this since it was so highly anticipated.

Punkapocalyptic.  Based on a miniatures game.  Robert Schwalb wrote this one. It’s a crazy read.

Mork Borg.  Definitely a collector’s piece for me.  Seems hard to run.  Really stylish production values.

Vaesen.  Another one from Free League based on Zero Engine.  This book is gorgeous.  The publisher is the shit.  I’m in a MYZ group right now.

Its been a pretty dry season recently but luckily the Kickstarters came through:

Legendary Planet Adventure Path has taken many many years to complete but finally made it in the end.

Rise of the Drow is a very pretty looking book, unfortunately for 5th Edition but I am still a sucker for anything Dark Elf related.

Introduced my kids to RPGs this week.  Character creation and first foray into Moldvay's D&D basic.  Couldn't find Expert, so I got a used copy.

Big fan of the Alien franchise.  Saw this and was intrigued.  Rules seem great.  Going to do a one shot cinematic play soon.

All very exciting!

Introducing your kids to TTRPG's is a lot of fun.

Out of my 3 kids only one joined my Friends & Family group that has been together for 30+ years.

Seeing as how I live in a wasteland of gaming, and recently I was working in the PNW, where I happen to be friends with the owners of FLGS, though such freindships have waned with the passing of years, my list of recent acquistions is absurdly large, even by my standards...

I have the Invisible Sun Black Box, Part Time Gods (2e), Synthecide, 7th Sea (Current Year Edition), Aethireum, About four Cyberpunk 2020 books, SuperAge, Hack the Planet, Shinobigami, Ryuutama, The Expanse, ICONS, Eclipse Phase 2E, Sunward and Rimward (both for EP 1E), Battlelords of the 23rd Century 7E, John Carter of Mars, Starfinder, Interface Zero for Starfinder, Mutant Year Zero: Elysium, and a couple of RIFTS supplements... and that's just what I remember.

All bought since September of 2020.

Hello, my name is Spike, and I have a problem....

I bet that was a pleasant surprise.  That’s why I rarely do KS.  Five years late?

Some good lists.  I think my top purchases this year were Alien RPG and Eclipse Phase 2nd Ed.

My most recent pickup was a hard copy of WFRP 4e that is likely to see use soon with a new group of players wanting to do non-D&D fantasy.

I got the Cyberpapacy set of Torg Eternity and promptly returned it for a refund when I discovered that US is already planning a 1.5 edition of that line. They totally killed my interest if they can't even finish the current line without getting distracted by shiny shit in other games and wanting to redo things "right this time." Fuck that, the current version was good enough, I don't want to rebuild to get something only slightly better (maybe better, maybe not).

CP Red is still pretty new on my shelf.

For that matter, I also have Tasha's Crock of Excrement for 5e that's only about a.month old and barely read (and likely to stay that way from lack of interest).

It was due July 2016, so not quite five years late.

Alrighty!!, needed to get some newer (i.e. not dog-eared, splitting, rusting, etc) old school D&D books, ...so picked these up right after Thanksgiving. They are getting kind of pricey on the open market these days...

Also want to wish everyone here a Very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Years!...

Surprisingly, for the first time in the Twenty years I have lived in the Midwest, My family figured out I really like roleplaying games, and checked by Amazon Wish List. This Christmas gift was a game I had just about picked up on my own a couple weeks back, and look forward to giving it a playtest and shakedown run! They got the game, as well as the GM's Kit, which includes a screen. I'll run a couple games of this and then put up a review here. Another Green Ronin game for my collection, hope it makes Pramas' Christmas as well!

My youngest daughter also gifted me the Watersprite Dungeons and Dragons Dice Set from https://wwwAdventurersWoodworks.com (https://wwwAdventurersWoodworks.com) as well. While not precision dice, they are one of the most beautiful and blingy dice sets ever, and I'll happily add them to my Crown Royale dice bag. According to her, these dice are all the rage for the 5e crowd... so, ended up with something old, and something new for this Holiday Season! Sure hope 2021 goes the same way today went!

Of the games I ordered this month I am getting the John Carter of Mars RPG Dotar Sojat, Prince of Helium and Jeddak of Jeddaks era source books. As well as The Narrator's screen and adventure.Furthermore I ordered all of the rest of the Basic Fantasy RPG books that I don't already have. (Namely Castle by the Sea, Adventure Anthology two, Monkey Isle and Saga of the Giants). Finally the other book I ordered is Fantastic Heroes & Witchery. As for a gift I am receiving that would be Infected Post Apocalypse RPG.

Just acquired.  Another two from Free League.

Forbidden Lands-   The GM I’m playing with is interested in running this after our current campaign.  Don’t know a lot about it yet.

Coriolis-   I picked this up just because it’s from Free League.  It’s pretty low on my to read list so I’m curious if anyone here knows about it.  I’ve flipped through it and the art is nice.

Edit.  How do I make the pictures right side up?

I don't like the MY0 rules, but I love the Coriolis setting. Unfortunately, the book is really light on gear and even talents, so it feels somewhat incomplete. However, if I were to run it, I'd probably use a generic system anyway (but more gear to get a feel for the tech levels would be nice).

Beyond the Supernatural 1E for 1E. The binding was glued back with the kind kids use in highschool and pretty beatup. Hard to beat for that price and given that 2E has too much missing and the missing BTS2 books are probably vaporware not disappointed.

As a gift; I received Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, for D&D 5E.

I want to spend more time with it, but life gets in the way.

After a couple of hours with Tasha's; I think I personally appreciate Xanathar's Guide to Everything, more.

I don't need more rules or more options for 5E.  Heck, the basic rules are plenty.  However, I do enjoy seeing additional spells laid out for this edition.  It gives me a reference, for my own machinations

In Coriolis, specifically (because that's the only one I own), it is the limited range of options. Characters can start to feel very similar to one another from the start (which isn't too unusual) and stay that way much longer than I like (this is the bigger problem). I'm also not too keen on the target number of 6 (on a d6) and needing to use the reroll mechanic to accomplish much of anything reliably. Overall though, it might be less of what I don't like about it and more that there's nothing in it that I specifically like (mechanically; again, the setting and art are pretty awesome).

For Christmas I bought myself Lion & Dragon as a .pdf and Hardcover (still waiting for that bad boy to come in).  My players are used to 5e/Forgotten Realms.  I am looking forward to going all Medieval on their asses...

In MY0 when you push a roll and fail you risk damage to one of your stats but failing is also the main way you gain points for more mutations.  I’ll have to see how that mechanic works in the other games but at least with MY0 it’s great.

I said I didn't *like* the mechanic, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. If you like it, go with it. For me, I'd rather run Coriolis with D6 Space (or possibly Genesys) over the MY0 system. Regardless, I do recommend Coriolis for the setting, so I think you got a great piece to your collection from that purchase.

I dunno. I liked the IDEA of the Coriolis setting, but upon deeper inspection I kept running into 'no there, there', if you get me?

It doesn't help that the MY0 rules, and as you noted how equipment tends to go, produces no 'feeling' for the setting either, its just sort of meh.

I think that's easy to miss in the Year Zero line, because the (counts finger...) Four distinct play options each provide radically different approaches to characterization that it obscures how thin everything else is... of course since 'everything else' is also supposed to be unexplored, and thus easily served with a nice heaping of 'DYI' setting creation rules, also makes up for it.. both elements lacking in Coriolis. Which is why I steeled myself, and exercised rare discipline and did NOT buy the new Aliens RPG.... previewing it showed me the 'illusion of choice' in character creations (Eg every character winds up a near clone of every other character, mechanically), and.. well... MY0 rules.

Thread necro only cuz I’ve bought a lot of shit and assuming many of you did too.

SLA Industries 2nd Ed.   Never got into the first one but this is the shit.  I plan on running this in the near future.  I think it’s a good indication the hobby is in a good era when a game from the 90s gets its first new edition.

Lex Arcana 2nd Ed.   I couldn’t resist this one.  Beautiful books.  I love alt-history settings.  I haven’t cracked them open yet.  Anyone pick this up?

I've been filling my shelves lately. This is from the last two weeks. I did not include the Invisible college but I got that too. I also got a used copy of the D20 Starwars game 2nd ed, and a 1st & 2nd edition copy of the WEG Starwars game. I could not find the revised and expanded one for cheap yet.
