Quote from: King of Old SchoolI think we'll see a revamped edition of d20 Modern in line with the d20 variant in SECR, and sooner rather than later.  In fact, I think that may be one of the reasons why all further d20M books from Wizards (e.g. d20 Spectaculars) were pulled from the schedule.

I agree. And I think, we seen lot of signs of this comming. It is possible, that revision od d20 Modern will be announced on GenCon, although it might be not. But I expect revision in late 2008 to come.

I am not so much sure about D&D 4e though. It would pretty much depend on success of SW Saga edition (and possible D20 modern revision).

But hey! I am looking forward to it...

Quote from: GoOrangePicked up my copy today. In going through the changes, there are a lot of things that make me wonder "Why didn't anyone think of this before?".

They have :)...IMHO, Wizards lets other people take the risks breaking "new ground".  They see what works and what doesn't...then take the things that work and make them about 100 times better.

There has been a trend going on for a while now with games gearing themselves to quicker, simpler, more streamlined rules with less work for the GM.  WotC knows a good move when they see it.

I'm prepping for a one-shot to run at Desert Con (a local gaming con held at the FLGS) and the biggest problem I'm running into is the anemic vehicle selection in the core book.

There's some efforts to fill in the gaps on Wizards' messageboard, and there's undoubtedly that starship book coming much later on, but...  well, there's only two capital ships listed in the book, for example.  The corvette and the star destroyer.

I'm wanting to use a mon calamari star cruiser as a luxury ship, and I also need an assault transport, but there's little I can do save go back through my RCR and WEG books and try to convert with no guidelines.  I've had a certain amount of success, but this is taking the place of all the prep headaches that making characters used to be.

Okay, grubs, lemme pose you a question:

I used Savage Worlds for a startup Clone Wars adventure (my first attempt at GMing) in which all the PC's were Jedi and they all had a 5 trooper squad of mook specialists under their command.  I was trying to take advantage of a cool wartime setting with good rules for large skirmishes.

I may be interested in trying that again sometime down the line.  In your opinion, could I do that sort of thing, along with space battles reasonably as easily with Saga as with Savage Worlds?  I'm still going to pick up Saga at some point, but what you say will probably effect how soon I pick it up.

I'd say no way could you do that as easily in Saga edition as you could with savage worlds. A lot of stuff has been streamlined in SE, but it's not made for the skirmish-type combat you described. It could be done, but it wouldn't be as easy as with Savage Worlds.

Well, especially with good use of the attack options provided, skirmishes aren't that hard to handle. I'd say they're not _quite_ on par with Savage Worlds, but not far off. The aid another action is rather useful for mooks, simulating suppressive fire. 5 mooks would be four checks against 10 and one attack roll with (most likely) a +8.
Taking damage is a bit more complicated due to counting wounds, but with blaster weapons and mooks that should be no problem at all...

Having run quite a few skirmish level games with Savage Worlds, I think that Saga can be run ALMOST as easily (with PCs running some mooks).

The biggest difference is going to be keeping track of hit points...but since clone troopers are Nonheroic (mooks), they are probably going to fall in one or two hits, just like in Savage Worlds.

To be honest, I would see no ptoblem importing a similar system for keeping track of wounds with Saga.  One hit gets marked with a token as wounded (-5 to hit, defenses), another hit is incapacitated.

I like HPs over wound system, so obviously I'm in favor or Saga, but being honest with you, I see no problem in running your adventure with a minimum of problems...and the added "complication" of HPs is worth it for all the other things that SWS does more "starwarsich" than Savage Worlds does (and Savage Worlds did a pretty good job).

P.S.  Sorry if this sounded rushed, but a storm is coming, so I have to get off the computer soon. :)
